In the lifetime of a Jedi, there will be many choices. Many paths they can take. From when they start training to the day they become One With The Force. This page shows the different levels of a Jedi's training, and the alternate paths offered to Jedi.

Intiate - This is the first stage in the training of all Jedi. It starts from the time they are able to walk on their own, and lasts until the age of thirteen at the latest. The Initiate must be approved by the Council, must have a midichlorian level of at least 7,000 to even be considered, and usually be under the age of five. As an Initiate, one will learn all the basics to becoming a Jedi. Telepathy, control, conduct, lightsabre training and more. While some 'classes' may be taught by other temple masters, the main teacher for the Initiate class is Master Yoda, head of the Council.

Padawan - If an Initiate is not accepted by a Master by the age of thirteen, his or her training is discontinued. Some return home, others accept positions of work at the temple. If the Initiate meets the requirements for the next step, they are assigned a Master. There is, as a rule, only one student per Master. As a Padawan, the lessons they received as Initiates are continued, but now on a more personal level, and more importantly, they now receieve field training. Masters and Padawans are sent on missions by the Council, be it negotiating trade blockades or providing protection for royalty, the missions are as varied as the kinds of problems presented to the Council. A Master may request a new Padawan, or the Padawan request a change in Master, if the relationship is proving fruitless.

Knight - A Padawan may take the Trials to become a Knight whenever their Master deems them able, and it usually happens somewhere in their mid to late twenties. (As proof, Obi-Wan Kenobi was 27 when he took the Trials, and even the Chosen One was still a Padawan when he was around 20). Knights are afforded many freedoms, and can come and go from Coruscant as they wish, and also live off planet if they choose. They are still called upon to complete tasks assinged from the Council. If the Knight has no wish to take a student, they may remain in this status as long as they wish.

Master - For a Knight to become a Master, they must first take on a student, and train that student to become a Knight. Then the Knight is recognized by the Council as a Master. This advancement changes only the rank, there are no outstanding benefits. Also, to note, both Knights and Masters are refered to as 'Master' when addressed. Such as 'Master Mace' and 'Master Obi-Wan'. Even higher level Masters address others in this manner. The full title for someone who reaches this final rank is 'Jedi Knight Master'.

Council Members - There is no way to train to become a Council members. Council members are chosen by the Council itself, dictated by the will of the Force. Their judgement is law among the Jedi, and they are looked to for their wisdom on many issues.

Rogue - Again, becoming a Rogue Jedi is not something that can be trained for, rather it is something one becomes on their own. A Rogue is a Jedi who follows his or her own path in the Force, and believes in the 'Living Force' rather than the 'Unifying Force'. The difference being that the former values indivual lives over the whole, and the latter is willing to sacrifice whatever is neccesary in order to save many lives. This does not, however, mean a Rogue is completly against the Council and its decisions. Master Qui-Gon Jinn was thought of by many as a Rogue, and though he served the Council, he often disagreed with them and did things his own way.

Sith and Dark Jedi - Despite popular belief, there are differences between the two. Both follow the Dark Side of the Force, but Sith are raised in this practice, making them stronger and more attuned with the Dark Side, much the same as when a Jedi is raised in the Light. A Dark Jedi, however, is someone who was originally a follower of the Light Side, but decented to the Dark. They are powerful, but usually not as powerful as a Sith.

Shadow Jedi - Also known as a 'Grey' Jedi, Shadow Jedi are users of both the Light and Dark Sides of the Force. They are not neccesarily evil, nor are they completly good, they merely use the Force indescriminatly in order to reach their goals. However, though they can weild both the Light and the Dark, they are strong in neither.
