Nevyn
In 643, as the young prince Galrion, he was exiled by his father for refusing to give up his studies in the Dweomer.  As a result he was not allowed to marry his beloved (and betrothed) Brangwen.  Brangwen was obviously upset, and after the death of her father she had to live alone with her brother Gerraent, who was in love with her.  After all of this Brangwen eventually killed herself, and her unborn baby.  Gerraent became furious and guilty, and in his anger killed his best friend Blaen who was going to marry Brangwen, even though it seemed Galrion had cast her off.  Tied up in this tragedy is Ysolla, Blaen's sister, who was desperately in love with Gerraent and Blaen's mother, all close friends of Galrion.

Rhegor, Galion's dweomermaster, tells Galrion that it was Brangwen's wyrd to study the dweomer, and this actions have destroyed that.  Consequently, Galrion swears a vow that he will make up for all the pain he caused and bring Brangwen to her wyrd, whatever the cost and however long it takes.  Little was he to know that it would take him over 400 years, and that he would have to endure watching these souls that he loves be born and die over and over again.

Over these years he becomes know as Nevyn, the name his father gave him when he was exiled which means 'no one'.  The average person believes that every few years a new master of the dweomer takes on the honorary title, where we know it is all the same man.  Throughout his years he helps the kingdom throne a new king to stop the civil wars killing thousands, works to stop the dark masters spreading evil to the kingdom, and waits for his opportunity to help those souls he is indebted to.

In the 1060's he brings Brangwen (now Jill) to the dweomer, and finally his unnaturally long life can end and he can be reborn with the chance to start afresh.

[top]

Jill
J
ill is the daughter of Cullyn (a silver dagger) and Seryan (a serving maid).  As a child Jill lived with her mother, any whenever Cullyn had made any money he would bring it too them.  When Jill was about seven Seryan died, and having no other family she had to go with her father.  As a silver dagger he would ride from lord to lord as a mercenary for hire, and while he was out fitting the Lords battles Jill would have to wait for him to return.  Consequently she learnt to swing a sword, and take care of her father, becoming the family accountant.
When she was about 18 she falls in love with Rhodry Maelwaedd, the second son of the Gwenbet of Aberwyn.  However Rhodry is exiled by his jealous brother and become a silver dagger to make a living, Jill goes with him.  Eventually, though, she decides to leave Rhodry to study the dweomer.
Jill becomes a very powerful dweomer master, never as compassionate as Nevyn, but still powerful.

In 643 as Brangwen and Blaen they were to marry.  In 693 they were Lyssa and Gweran, and were married.  Here Tanyc (Gerraent), is besotted with Lyssa, following her around. She tells her husband and she gets him hung. She states that she wishes she were a man so she didn't have to depend on luck and men.

In her next life in 773, she is Gweniver.  All the males in her clan (the wolf) are killed, leaving her sister, her mother and her homeless and at the mercy of their men's killers.  To escape they flee to the priestesses.  In order to fight and avenge her family, and so she will never have to marry, she becomes a priestess.  She leads the survives of her fathers warband and another men willing to fight into battle, one of which is Ricyn (Blaen).  They join a larger army headed by Dannyn (Gerraent). He is again besotted with her and tries to rape her. She has him exiled (she hates him) and he kills himself in shame.

In 835 Jill is Branoic, this time a man.  He is a huge silver dagger, a very honourable and nice guy. He is best friends with Maddyn (Rhodry) but Owaen (another silver dagger and Gerraent) hates him, making his life hell.  In this life he falls in love with Lillorigga, Nevyn's new apprentice.  however the King likes her too, and while engaged to Branoic she is fooling around with Maryn.  Branoic knows, but he can't stop the king.  In the end Branoic dies in a war to put Maryn on the throne, but while saving Owaen's life.

Rhodry
As above, his is the second son to the gwenbret of Aberwyn.  His brother Rhys is a bitter and twisted man, who knows that Rhodry is a better man that him and would make a better gwenbret.  Consequently he takes the first chance he gets to exile him.
After Rhys dies leaving no heirs, the King recalls Rhodry so that he may rule.  He does so happily, for the next 20 years.  However, as he is half elven, he doesn't appear to age at all, and his sons become anxious as they had expected their father to pass the ruler ship on to them.  Realizing he has many more years to live, and no wanting anyone discovering his elven ties, he fakes his own death and becomes a silver dagger again.
In these long years he hooks up with Dallandra and elven dweomermaster, and together they fight against the dark dweomer and its armies.  Such as the war against the Horsekin, where Rhodry must find  Azoroth the dragon and convince her to help them. She ends up only doing do because of a spell, but in the end Rhodry becomes her only real friend.  In the end, to save more lives, he allows himself to be turned into a dragon, thus never being able to be incarnated into a human body again.

In 696 Rhodry is Gweran the Bard, married to Lyssa (Brangwen).  He has Tanyc hung for coverting his wife.

In 773 he is Ricyn a rider for Gwinever's father and when he didn't die in the battle with his Lord he fells extremely shamed.  He overcomes this by fighting for Gweniver (Brangwen).  They are in love, but vow never to share a bed.

In 835 he is Maddyn, the silver dagger cross bard.  In these days the silver daggers were respectable, and responsible for putting Maryn on the throne.  Maddyn becomes joint captain of the silver daggers and gets along relatively well with Owaen (Garraent).  He is in love with Bellyra, the Queen to be and King to be Maryn's wife.  Oggyn (slimy councillor) spreads a rumour that things are going on between them. Nothing was, they were both miserable because of it.  Consequently Maryn goes to sent her to one of his other homes (also so that Lilli his mistress will take him back).  She used to love him, but he has been such a bastard, and she kills herself.

As Maer in 918, he was a silver dagger again. In this life he meets Glaenara (Bellyra) and they marry.

In 980 as Meddry, he is a young man which is killed by a blue gnome in human form.  She has followed him around all his other lives, this time taking on human form.  She doesn't understand that she is sucking the life out of him.

[top]

Cullyn
Cullyn was a silver dagger, a hired mercenary.  He is however, a relatively honourable man, and did truly love Seryan (Jill's mother). He loves his daughter, nearly too much, but overcomes this (unlike Gerraent in his past life).  He ends up being the captain of Rhodry's Mother's warband, thus not a dishonoured man anymore.  Loves Rhodry like a son.

As Garraent (643), Tanyc (696) and Dannyn (773), they all hated or lusted after the soul that was Brangwen.  When Brangwen's soul was that of the male Branoic where he died saving Owaen's life, Owaen hit a turning point.  He realised that Branoic didn't truly hate him, and hence as Cullyn he and Jill are a happy little family.

When Garraent, Ysolla is besotted with him.  In her next life as Cadda she is also in love with him, where he indulges her simply because he's bored and the same occurs in 835 when we have Owaen and Clwa, It is not till Cullyn, where Servyan is the soul of Ysolla, that he loves her and treats her well.

Through all his lives, the falcon has been Garraent's device. Tanyc is nicknamed the falcon, Owaen has it printed on all his gear and makes Branoic remove his own device as his is similar.  In the life they end up agreeing to give Branoic back his if the colour is changed.  Then as Jill and Cullyn, they have it as their family symbol, engraved on both their silver daggers.

[top]

Lovyan
Lovyan is Rhodry's mother who had a fling with an elf, consequently Rhodry is technically not an heir at all to the gwenbret.  She run Cannaebaan, by herself, which was given back to her, as when she married it went to her husband.  She is very fond of Cullyn, who is the captain of her warband.

In 643 she was Rodda, Blaen's mother.  She was very fond of Galrion( Nevyn) and consequently in each past life she has respected him and been his friend.

In 773 she is Dolyan, Gweniver's mother.  Her love of Jill like a daughter in the present stems from this life.

[top]

Ogwern
Ogwern was one of the head Thieves that Jill stumbled across while she was tracking Rhodry when he had been kidnapped.  He helps her, thus redeeming himself from the wrongs he did as Oggyn in 835.

Oggyn was one of Prince Maryn's councillors (along with Nevyn).  When they first invaded the Dun, he poisoned the Usurper King, who was but 5 or something.  Only Nevyn knew, but kept his tongue because Oggyn has his uses.  He was a greedy sod,  in one instant he was charging people to take messages to the king and the head of the silver daggers and when the Prince found out he was shamed in from of the entire court.  He also spread a rumour that Maddyn (the silver dagger bard and the soul of Rhodry) and Bellyra  were more than just friends.  This gave Maryn the excuse to send her away, which caused her to kill himself.  Oggyn hung himself in guilt.

[top]

Yraen
Yraen left his warband, not from disgrace, but because he wanted to be a silver dagger.  In this time silver daggers weren't respected, they were just swords for hire and lords often put them in the most dangerous positions in a battle.  Rhodry doesn't understand why he wants to be one, but he keeps following him around until Rhodry eventually pledges him to the silver daggers. They become good friends and travel together.

In his past life he was Maryn(or Prince Maryn who was fighting to be King).  In this life his selfish actions to gain the favour again of his mistress Lilli (Niffa), he attempts to sent his wife Bellyra (Carramaena) away.  This results in her suicide.  In the present he meets Carramaena, and he an Rhodry must help her, thus all becoming friends.

[top]

Carramaena
Carra was a daughter of some lord or other, but left this and tried to find the elf she fell in love with.  On her travels she meets Rhodry and Yraen, who agree to escort her to the Dun the elf is staying at.  She is also pregnant with his child, but unbeknown to her this child has the soul of Ellessrio.  Ellessrio was Evander's daughter, a soul that had never been reborn, but Dallandra convinced her too.  Evander's wife at the time (and Ellesrio's mother) was Alshandra, who employed Raena to kill Carra and the child.  Consequently Raena raises an army of Horeskin, which siege the city when Carra finally gets to her love.  This elf is one of the last living descendants of the elven kings, making him a prince, and he truly does love Carra.

In 835 she was Bellyra, Prince Maryn's wife.  She loved her husband deeply at the beginning, but as time went on she began to hate him as her only use to him was to bear sons.  She consequently lives most of her life depressed, and cant stand her children, all constant reminders of her prison type life.  She finds joy again by writing, and spends much of her time traipsing around Dun Deverry writing about any bits of history or legend she can find.  Maddyn is her guard in these endeavours (appointed by her husband), and they become good friends.  She is also in love with Maddyn, and because she cant act on that it is tearing her up inside.  They do share one kiss, and know that they never will let themselves again.  However the rumour had already been started.  Maryn brings her in front of the entire Dun to ask her if she has shamed herself with Maddyn.  She denies it, and makes a mockery of Maryn, with a little help from Otto the dwarven smith.  Maryn uses this as a chance to sent her away, which puts Bellyra into a greater depression, now she has nothing to live for,  Her one role in life has been taken away, as Maryn says they don't need and more sons, and she cant have Maddyn.  So she kills herself.

In her next life as Glaenara, just an ordinary farm girl, she falls in love and marries Maer (Maddyn).

[top]

Raena
Raena was convinced by that Alshandra was a god, and in return for her services Alshandra gave Raena powers of dweomer.  She left her husband and went to the Horsekin preaching her Goddess, convincing many that Alshandra said that the land of Deverry was theirs for the taking.  Consequently she headed an army of them, where Alshandra's soul purpose was to get back her daughter Ellessrio who had been born into Deverry.  Alshandra is defeated, Jill giving her life to kill her.  Raena however, thinks that she is shill alive but won't show herself cause she failed.  Lord Havoc, Evander's brother, them comes top Raena claiming to be a god, and she plans to lead the Horsekin into Deverry this him, and with Havocs help, win.  While living in Cerr Carwen with her lover Verrarc, she meets Niffa.  They instantly hate each other, and Verrarc is the only thing that stops her from killing her.  Raena is eventually killed by Rhodry, but he looses his human life in the process.

In 835 Raena was Merroda, Lilli's (Niffa's soul) mother.  Merroda was in love with her brother Burcan, and Lilli was their child, though no one knew this.  Merroda was using Lilli's gifts for the dweomer for her own gain, and also has a habit of poisoning anyone that got in her way.  She had Lilli's foster mother murdered on the road because she was gaining more influence over the Queen.  This is when Lilli's and her foster father and brother go over to Prince Maryn's side.  She is eventually killed by Neyvn, but leaves behind a curse tablet that threatens Maryn's Life

[top]

Verrarc
Verrarc is a member of the Cerr Carwen council, which only contains 4 people.  As a child he was beaten  by his father after his mother died, at her husbands hand.  Dera (Niffa and Jahdo's mother) was the only one who would shelter him and speak out against his father.  She shamed him into stopping the beatings, and Verrarc goes out of his way to help Dera and keep her family from harm.  Verrarc wanted to marry Raena but his father said she was beneath him and she was married off to some guy in another town. When Verrarc's father died, Raena left her husband and can back to him.  consequently all the town's women of Cerr Carwen dislike Raena for her adultery.  Verrarc is a relatively good hearted guy, his love for Raena and his desire to protect her leads him to doing some dishonourable things.  when he discovered Raena has been lying and has brought trouble to his beloved town, he is genuinely upset.

As Burcan in 835, his is Merodda's brother.  He again loves her deeply, and is manipulated by her.  In his other life as Sarcyn in the 1060's he is a dark dweomer master.  Thus as Verrarc he begins to redeem himself.

[top]

Niffa
Niffa is Dera's daughter and Jahdo's sister living in Cerr Carwen.  her family is the town ratters, they live in two rooms adjoining the granary and use there ferrets to keep the rats down.  As a young child she saw, and still sees, the wildfolk and often has true dreams.  she learnt, however, not to tell people about these dreams least they think her a witch.  She marries Demet, the weavers son, but he is soon killed by Raena's Lord havoc which she sees in a true dream.  Even before this she hates Raena, this steaming from their encounters in a previous life.  She meets Dallandra in one of her true dreams and becomes her apprentice in the dweomer.

In 835 Niffa's soul was that of the Lady Lilliorigga, whose mother Merodda (Raena) used her for her dweomer gifts.  Lilli escapes to Prince Maryn's side with her foster brother Anasyn (Kiel) after Merroda had her foster mother Bevyan (Dera) murdered.  Lilli becomes Nevyn's apprentice.  Prince Maryn takes a liking to her, and she soon becomes him mistress and is consequently hated my him wife Bellyra (Carra).  Before this affair started she became good friends with Branoic (Jill as a man) and they became betrothed.  Lilli tells Branoic, but as it is the Prince he can do nothing.  Lilli knows it is wrong but she is too besotted with the Prince and flattered by his attentions.  When Branoic dies in a battle, she finally tells the Prince that the affair is to end and they she loved Branoic and he was a better man than he.  Maryn sends Bellyra away in the hopes that if Lilli cant see her misery she will come back to him.  Instead Lilli cleans the curse tablet her mother left, and thereby sacrificing herself.  The act cause her cough to turn into the consumption, and she dies shortly after.  Thus when born as Niffa, she is as far away from Yraen (Maryn) as possible, and even becomes good friends with Carra.

[top]

Dera
Dera is Niffa's and Jahdo's mother.  She is a very good hearted woman who will always think the best of people no matter the circumstances.  When Verrarc was young, she was the only person who would shelter him from his violet father, and she would shame him in public until the beatings stopped.  Consequently Verrarc always looks out for her family, and it is only because of him that Niffa and Jahdo still live.

In the 830's here soul was Bevyan, who would also always think the best of people.  Here she was Lilli's (Niffa's) foster mother, whom Lilli loved and respected more than her own.

[top]

Jahdo
Jahdo is the son of the ratters in Cerr Carwen.  He accidentally overheard a secret conversation between Verrarc and Raena, and was consequently ensorcelled to forget.  When a Gel da Tae bard can through on his was to Deverry to find his brother, Jahdo ends up as his guild.  They become good friends, but when he dies he is stuck in Deverry.  Dallandra and Rhodry take him under their wing and promise to take him home come spring.

In the 830's, h is soul was that of Olaen, the child usurper king, whose life was cut short when Oggyn poisoned him.

[top]

Kiel
Kiel is Niffa and Jahdo's elder brother.  He's a good hearted boy, and truly loves his family and town.  He works on the town militia.

In the 830's he was Anasyn, Niffa's foster brother.  After the death of both his mother and father he adopts Lilli in to his clan and watches out her.
