Requirements for joining the adventure

This game currently runs with one large ship and a talented writing crew. This is a moderated list which means that postings are generally sent out only once a day from a central mailing address, although you may post to the Gamemaster as often as you like.

You are required to create a character in the Star Trek™ genre of characters. We would prefer it if you pick a "whole" race not a "half" race such as half human/half Klingon, half Bolian/half Betazed, etc. You may not select an actual character from an episode of the television, movie, or novel series, although indirect references to know characters in the genre is acceptable.

You must provide a background for your character, although given the nature of this game -- which will be explained in greater detail on a need to know basis if you are accepted for this mission -- you are not required to be totally familiar with your character at the beginning of the game. This means, that if you haven't figured out ALL the details yet, but you have a loose idea for a character in mind, that's fine with us. You may even find out this uncertainty works out better for you in the long run.

Please e-mail the Gamemaster with any specific questions about the character requirements.

Each days's postings will be in the form of an interactive adventure. The Gamemaster has sole control over which characters are featured daily, but think of yourself as being part of the "cast" of the show. We are ALL the stars...but some people such as the Captain and First Officer are featured more frequently than others. At some point, everyone will have a chance to be the MAIN star of the week.

You must also submit a writing sample to the Gamemaster. This is not a big deal. Merely write a paragraph or two in the character you will be portraying.

All posts must be written in the third person -- he said, she said. Nothing should be written in first person "I." If you require help with this, please contact the Gamemaster.

The following rules also apply to posting. Violation of these rules can result in being kicked off the Game List.

  1. Profanity and vulgarity are not to be used with the exception of the occasional "Damn" or "Merde" (if your character is bi-lingual). As officers, we are expected to have gone to school and learned several other ways to express frustration, surprise, or anger. If in doubt, contact the Gamemaster.

  2. Explicit romantic scenes between characters are not to be depicted, although romance between crew members and assorted guest aliens always seems to happen. Sexual innuendoes are not tolerated, either. If in doubt, contact the Gamemaster.

  3. You are NOT allowed to write for other characters. This is a sacred rule of this game which had not been violated in over 3 years. For instance, if you are the med tech attending a wounded Player character, you are free to run the tricorder up and down the patient and ask "How do you feel?" But the other character has to answer, moan, scream, etc... You are not allowed to do that for them. If in doubt, contact the Gamemaster.

  4. You MAY write the actions/dialogue for certain NPCs (non-player characters) who have been invented for general story use by all writers.

  5. Be sure to read the daily posts before writing your next scene. It causes great work for the Gamemaster to edit two scenes where different characters have written conflicting episodes because they didn't read what had already been written. It may also serve to keep your post from not being used that day.

Above all, this is a role-playing game for people who like surprises, great adventures -- to be sure -- but also to have intelligent conversation between characters and excellent character developent.

If you feel that this is the RPG for you, then by all means, e-mail the Gamemaster with your questions, character profile/writing sample, or whatever. We would love to have you aboard.
