CLAY COUNTY
The Clay County Health
Department operates three types of volunteers
services programs. The first program utilizes physicians
who work at the health departments medical clinics;
the second program is a primary care clinic that provides
medical care to qualified individuals; and the third
program has physicians who accept specialty referrals
from the health department and the volunteer clinic.
Some ways volunteers can help at
the health department are:
- WIC (Women, Infant, and
Children) Breastfeeding Peer Counselors
- Reading to Children While
Waiting for Their Appointment
- Licensed Health Care
Professionals, i.e., Physicians, Registered
Nurses
- Special Events, i.e.,
Immunizations Outreach
- Clerical Assistants in
all Clinics and Programs
- Outreach Programs such as
Prevention of Tobacco Use by Youth
- HIV Pre and Post Test
Counseling
A volunteer primary care clinic
known as the Clay County Catholic Medical Clinic is
operated from the Bear Run Clinic located at 3229
Blanding Boulevard, Middleburg. This clinic provides
medical care to those individuals whose income is at or
below 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines and
have no applicable health insurance. The clinic is opened
the second Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00
p.m.
The specialty referral program,
which is managed out of the Clay County Health
Department, accepts referrals from the health
departments clinics as well as the volunteer
clinic. The coordinator refers the patients to
specialists and for other services as needed. Others who
participate in this program are: Columbia Orange Park
Medical Center, LABCORP, Superior Home Health Care, and
Consolidated Laboratories.
