GULF COUNTY

Gulf County is on the Gulf of Mexico in Northwest Florida and is home to nearly 15,000 persons. Port St. Joe is the county seat and played a major role in Florida’s territorial period. The main Gulf County Health Department clinic is located here, with a satellite clinic in the rural community of Wewahitchka. Volunteer activities at these clinics have been supported by groups that include the Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, and the Port St. Joe Church of Christ. There are currently no volunteer health care providers. The county is undergoing a transition from relying on the local papermill to support the local economy.

Gulf County has some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida, including the St. Joseph Peninsula State Park and Mexico Beach. Volunteer efforts to assist in child immunizations and joint projects with the American Cancer Society have been quite successful.
