LAKE COUNTY

We Care of Lake County, Inc., located in Tavares and a program of the Lake County Medical Society, provides limited health and dental care at no cost to the financially eligible residents of Lake County. We Care has 253 health care professionals volunteering their services and would welcome additional volunteers to help meet the demand of health care for the working people that can’t afford medical insurance. In the past four years the volunteers of We Care have contributed over $2 million in services to the residents of the county and expect to match that in the next 2 years. We Care operates on a budget of $70,000 annually, and funding is provided by the Lake County Commission, United Way, and private grants. The Lake County Health Department promotes, protects, maintains, and improves the health and safety of Lake County’s residents and visitors. This is accomplished by:

• identifying health risks in the community;
• maintaining a safe and healthful environment;
• detecting, investigating, and preventing the spread of disease;
• promoting healthy lifestyles;
• providing care for individuals with limited access to such care from the private sector; and
• informing the public on health issues.
