LIBERTY COUNTY

Liberty County is located in rural Northwest Florida, just to the west of Tallahassee. With a population of nearly 8,000 it is the least populous county in the state. Agriculture and forest products are the backbone of the economy. There is no hospital or emergency room facility in the county. Only one physician and one dentist reside in the county, making it a designated health provider shortage area. The county is bordered by the scenic Ochlocknee River on the east and the historic Apalachicola River on the west. Bristol is the county seat and Hosford the other community in the county.

There have been no organized volunteer activities within the county health department, though the Lions Club has been helpful in obtaining eyeglasses for needy children. Persons or group interested in volunteering should contact Paul Boisvert at the Liberty County Health Department, 247 N. Central St., Bristol, Fl 32321. Mr. Boisvert may be reached by telephone at (850) 643-2415.
