County Profile:

1998 population 35,801. Thirty-five percent of the population is below 150 percent of the federal poverty level. The major city is Okeechobee.

Health Care Access:

According to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, in 1998, Okeechobee County had 49 medical doctors, two osteopathic physicians, seven dentists, and 204 registered nurses actively licensed.

Status of Volunteer Efforts:

The Okeechobee County Health Department had four community service volunteers donate 1,280 hours of grounds and maintenance services.
