Volunteers play a major role in the delivery of quality medical care and in the development and implementation of health and human services programs:

  • Over two hundred health center volunteers including physicians and nurses work in seven clinic and administrative office sites located strategically throughout the county.
  • Auxiliary groups sponsor each clinic and work on special projects enhancing the lives of our families. They run emergency food pantries, clothing stores, and recruit materials and donations as needed.
  • Coordination for PBC Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition. Group oversees community’s teen pregnancy prevention plan. Special programs and promotion projects implemented twice a year.
  • Special outreach programs and projects are created under the auspices of the Governor’s Council for Community Health Partnerships:

* Godparent Volunteer Program--mentoring Head Start children and assisting in the classroom.

* Summer Camp Scholarship Program--raising funds for needy children to go to camp.

* Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program--providing education and support for new moms.

* School Health Services--providing volunteers working in conjunction with nurses in our schools doing a plethora of tasks.

These volunteers have the same legal protection that is available to all state employees and receive sovereign immunity protection under Chapter 110, Florida Statutes, Volunteer Program.

The Palm Beach Care Network is comprised of over 200 physicians, all specialists, who provide medical services to uninsured residents whose income falls below the Federal Poverty Level. Patients are seen by appointment, in the doctor’s private offices and, if special diagnostic tests or surgery is needed, are referred out to one of the eight partnerships hospitals. All Network services are free and provided by volunteers.*

  • Project: Dentists Care has volunteer Dentists seeing patients at no cost, through two Palm Beach County programs. Eligible patients who are victims of domestic assault and/or homeless, are referred through the Café Joshua Program to dentists who see patients by appointment, in their private offices. Other volunteers serve on a yearly rotation basis at the Caridad Health Clinic’s evening and weekend dental clinics.*
  • The Caridad Health Clinic serves the migrant and Florida farmworker population and their families. An all-volunteer staff of medical and dental licensed professionals, as well as other ancillary health care providers see eligible patients Tuesday through Saturday during regular clinic hours.*
  • Health Department Volunteers are retired physicians with Florida licenses who volunteer to see patients at any of our seven countywide health centers. Volunteer nurses see patients in our centers, and also perform a variety of functions, through the Childhood Immunization Coalition and at weekend outreaches and health fairs co-sponsored by the Department of Health.*

*All Florida licensed professional volunteers receive sovereign immunity protection under Florida State Statute 766.1115, the Volunteer Health Care Provider Act.
