General Rules and Guidelines

  1. Let's be sensible in developing well-rounded and individual characters. "Mary-Sues" and "Whatta-guys" are the bane of editors. No one is the best at everything or even liked by everyone. The editors will be watching to maintain a good distribution of magic, skill levels etc. within the holt, so a balance is maintained among the characters. So one elf may get an OK on all and for another we will beg for changes - without apparent rhyme or reason but elf balance.
  2. All story submissions will be edited for continuity, accuracy and grammar. Once the story has been through editing, we'd love for the writer to send the final draft via computer disk, e-mail or a clean dark copy that can be scanned. For those who do not have access to a computer or typewriter, we will type in neatly handwritten stories.
  3. If you use other people's characters they get to preview and approve or change your use of their character before you mail the story in for editing. Of course, if someone is particularly intransigent, substitute another character.
  4. If you draw someone else's character they'd love to see it, so mail them a copy or just ask the editor to send them a copy. We will do so, it makes receiving a letter from an editor more pleasing.
