To forget, to mock the power of a voice, your voice, is most certainly a tragedy.
I have always enjoyed the performances of Brent Spiner (right). His character on the popular television series, Star Trek The Next Generation, an android named Data, is still a great source of amusement, in my opinion. Here, the stark contrast between Brent's eyes and mouth echo the melancholy that I sometimes feel when I forget about the importance of using my voice.
Often, the simple effort of voicing an opinion, a fear or an observation is uplifting. Who has listened and the consequence lose their validation when seen from this perspective.
So many of our actions are rooted in a need for acceptance and praise. Self esteem becomes the mirror that our neighbours are holding. While I do feel that we have a responsibility to use our voice respectably, the individual is the only person who is in a position to make such a judgment. In this manner, pride in oneself is achieved.
I came by a copy of Days of the New, the band's self-titled debut. My brother has been playing acoustic guitar for a couple of years, and he recommended that I listen to them. It's not hard to see why. The sound opens so many doors. You have to stop and look through.
The vocalist, Travis Meeks, has found an audience for his voice. It is strong. A few of the themes that he explores remind me of conversations I've had with a good friend of mine. I recommend reading some of his writing. He has completely altered my perspective.
Opinions? I don't really have a preference for the direction of this page. As I have said before, neighbours and guests, the floor is open. Whether it be a challenge or a comment, let me know.
