Battle Zone Technology

The Star Wars universe has many weapons, tools, and devices that are common with other forms of Sci-fi, and others that are unique. In the same manner, The Battle Zone (BZ) has technology that is common with the rest of the Star Wars (SW) saga, and technology that is unique to this site. My intent with this group of pages is to catalog (eventually in an exhaustive format) the technology available to BZ participants.

This group of pages will be broken into several categories: personal weapons, vehicles and large weapons, spacecraft, and unique technology. Damage to characters and vehicles as well as the modification of technology will be on this very page.

Damage

Before a discussion of BZ technology can be had, some explanation is in order. With the institution of the point system, I created a loose way to determine how things can turn out when an agreement can not be reached between two or more participants. The same style of system must exist for damage.

Just as characters can harm another character, ships can do damage to other vessels, and blasters can harm living flesh. What I do not intend to do is create further headache. If what is written on this page will hamper your ability to participate on the BZ, please use it as a simple reference for vehicles and weapons. For me, however, it will be a tool to determine what is allowable on the BZ in space battles and in other combat situations.

Damage will be very simple to figure out:

In as simple terms as possible, when a character is hit with a blaster, that character has a strength rating that they have to discern what kind of damage that blaster bolt will do to them.

Vehicle/Ship damage is very similar: Incidentally, I wouldn't even expect people to sit down and figure out the damage done to each individual ship in a big battle, but this system could be used in a skirmish between 1-4 vessels.

Ionization damage is just a bit different: Ion cannons do not destroy ships, they only disable a ship's ability to function properly for ten minutes (I figured a specific amount of time would be the easiest way to go).

Tractor beam strength is an entirely different situation: Match the tractor strength with the defending ship's hull strength (no shields). If the tractor strength rating is greater than the defending ship's hull strength rating, the defending ship is captured. If both players agree to it, or the defending player can describe a realistic way for it to happen, the defending ship can attempt to break loose of the tractor beam in some fashion.

If a character or vehicle is already damaged and is hit again, then add one tenth of the damage from the damage rating from the previous damage to achieve a new result.

I despise setting up such a strict set of rules, so please don't look at these as "rules" necessarily, but as reference guidelines.

EXAMPLE: Marquis has a strength rating of 25 points. Her opponent shoots her with a Heavy blaster pistol (with a damage rating of 50). Marquis has taken lethal damage, and will die without immediate attention of some kind (even simple first aid will keep the reaper from claiming her life).

EXAMPLE: The pirate ship, Deathnugget, is hit by the turbolaser of an Imperial Star Destroyer. Deathnugget has hull strength of 180 and shield strength of 100, equaling a strength rating of 280! The ISD turbolaser has a damage rating of 375! The Deathnugget will be vaporized (realistic when you consider the power of the ISD compared to a simple, mildly modified freighter). The Millennium Falcon has a better chance, with a hull strength of 240 and a shield strength of 120, or a combined strength of 360!

I truly hope this seems simple, for I left out so much that would have made it even MORE complex. If it does not seem simple, then please just use the technology information on this page as a reference.

Modifying existing technology

A very popular pastime, modifying weapons and vehicles is a great way to spend your points! In keeping with the popular theme of the BZ, I'll be keeping modification rules as simple as I can. If I leave out an item that you want to modify, contact me!

BLASTERS: Modify the existing damage rating of a blaster by spending 2 points for one damage rating (character has a blaster with a damage rating of 40, spends 2 points and his blaster has a damage rating of 41). No more than 10 points may be spent like this at a time. A blaster may not have its damage rating increased by more than 15, period. A character must have the "Blaster Repair" skill to make modifications.

LIGHTSABERS: Modify the damage rating of a lightsaber by spending 10 points for one damage rating. No more than 50 points may be spent like this at a time. A lightsaber may not have its damage rating increased by more than 10, end of story. A character must have the "Lightsaber Technology" skill to modify a lightsaber.

VEHICLES: I'll discuss vehicles if anyone ever expresses an interest, or if I feel I have the time. Until then, there are other things that are demanding my time.

SPACECRAFT: Modifications are defined by class.

Freighter:

Class A:

Class B: and above.....Gimme a break! You can't be serious! Well, if you are, let me know and I'll give modification guidelines for those too.

Unique Technology

Unique technology has been used on the Battle Zone from the beginning, and though it can be taken a bit too far at times, it still exists and should therefore be described. Very limited information has been provided to me on a few items, but I will make this as thorough as possible.

Minisculian Technology:

A race discovered by Tashannoc, the Wookiee Jedi Master. These people offered the benefits of their technology to Tashannoc. There are two areas in which Minisculian technology has been adapted for use by the Wookiee.

Tashannoc's Disk Warships: This ship is built entirely with Minisculian technology. Each one is 30 meters long. The ship is prpelled and controlled with the use of very powerful ionic drives, giving it an excessively fast sublight speed and high maneuverability. Each ship is crewed by five; one pilot and four gunners. The Disk has a hyperspace speed of .5 past lightspeed, and flies at 1250 in planetary atmosphere. Each ship has 8 Minisculian blasters, 8 Minisculian Ion cannons, and 8 Minisculian Missile tubes. They have a hull strength rank of 160 and a shield strength rank of 180. Cost for the disk is 225 points (5 at character start-up).You must have approval from both Tashannoc and myself if you wish to purchase one of these ships.

Gemini Missiles:

Developed in a secret Rebel base just before the Battle of Dantooine, these fearsome weapons have proven to be the undoing of many experienced starfighter squadrons. The missile can be loaded into a standard torpedo launcher of most starfighters. It carries 20 mines that the warhead releases when it reaches a "target zone." These mines create a virtually impassable field for any starfighter attempting to fly through it.
They are not only available to the Rebel Alliance, as an Imperial Star Destroyer intercepted a shipment of Gemini missiles shortly after the Battle of Sullust and redirected the missiles to Deominia for study.
The mines do 125 damage per mine, the chance of multiple collisions with mines being the extreme danger.
There is no cost, as such, for Gemini missiles, but I will require anyone wishing to use these weapons to write to me beforehand to get my "thumbs up" on the plan. This will ensure game balance with these deadly weapons

Is there a piece of technological information that you feel is missing from this page? Let me know, I'll put it up! Due to time constraints I've placed on myself, this page is a work in progress and will be updated often. If something IS missing, it is essentially because I haven't added it yet.
