The Battle Zone Time Line

The Battle Zone is based in an alternate Star Wars universe. In the Battle Zone, the Empire is only slightly stunned by the destruction of the second Death Star at Endor, Emperor Palpatine is still alive, and the New Republic is pure fantasy. The Rebel Alliance failed to establish a viable government before Palpatine (resurrected in a clone body) could rally his Imperial military once again.

What follows is a timeline for the Battle Zone, briefly detailing the occurrences that shaped this alternate Star Wars reality.

Terms used in this time line

ANH - A New Hope. Commonly referred to as Star Wars, it is merely episode four of the story that George Lucas conceived when he created the Star Wars galaxy.

ESB - The Empire Strikes Back. Episode five.

NR - New Republic. Something that doesn't exist on the Battle Zone.

ROTJ - Return of the Jedi. Episode six.

TPM - The Phantom Menace. Episode one

6,000 years before ANH

Audric Elerian, patriarch of the House de Devastator, leaves Deominia on a quest of discovery throughout the galaxy. In his travels he finds his way to Ziost, the capital world of the Sith Empire. He is found worthy by the Sith Lords and is taken in by the Dark Lord of the Sith, Melcior Khral, as a pupil. Upon receiving the title of High Sith Apprentice, Audric returns to Deominia to challenge the reigning monarch in single combat. Using the Force, Audric slays the king and sets himself up as the ruler of Deominia, changing his name to Audric de Devastator.

176 years before ANH

Dark Jedi Mirath Omnes conquers Deominia and uses the hidden planet as his base of operations. One year later Delwin de Devastator, the head of House de Devastator, returns from a sabbatical and fights Omnes for control of Deominia. Omnes is banished from Deominia, but Delwin de Devastator receives wounds in the fight that prevent him from performing his duties as High Lord of Deominia. Delwin's son, Decimus de Devastator, is named as his successor.

52 years before ANH

Domino de Devastator is born.

34 years before ANH

Domino turns 18, the Deominian age of accountability. Domino's father, Decimus de Devastator, gives Domino a special lightdagger (a miniature lightsaber). One week later, Decimus is captured and slain by Deominian revolutionaries. His body was found too late for Domino to be able to perform the Deominian resurrection rites. Domino is named the rightful heir to the title of High Lord of Deominia. His first task was to hunt down, and bring to justice, the people who killed his father.

32 years before ANH

The events of TPM take place. One thing to point out regarding The Phantom Menace: in the novelization by Terry Brooks, the Sith Order is detailed to only have been around for 2,000 years. this totally eradicates anything found in the Dark Horse Tales of the Jedi comics regarding the Sith, so I have decided to IGNORE that little discrepancy. Tales of the Jedi Companion (from West End Games) states that the Sith Order is over 20,000 years old, so the Battle Zone will operate under that notion.

Domino sends a vanguard expedition out into the mainstream galaxy. The Deominian emissaries discover the waning Old Republic. Domino meets Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and helps him in his plans to become the Emperor. Domino allies himself to Palpatine, gaining access to Imperial military might and Imperial intelligence privileges, but keeps Deominia out of any dealings. After the Jedi purges and the fall of the old Republic, Domino returned to Deominia to attend to his duties there. In his stead, out of loyalty to Palpatine, Domino sent his cousin Darin de Devastator to serve the Empire in the galactic civil war.

ROTJ

The events of the movie "Return of the Jedi" take place.

1 day after ROTJ

The events of the novel The Truce at Bakura take place.
A summary: The Ssi-ruuvi begin an invasion of Bakura, an Imperial world that had not yet learned of the events of the battle of Endor. The High Council of the Rebel Alliance signs the declaration of the New Republic.

1 year after ROTJ

Emperor Palpatine steps out of his cloning cylinder on Byss, a planet deep in the core of the galaxy. He keeps his resurrection a secret from all but the highest of his servants.

2-4 years after ROTJ

The events of the "X-Wing" novels and The Courtship of Princess Leia take place.
A summary: Wedge Antilles reforms Rogue Squadron with members of various races throughout the galaxy. Rogue squadron plays an integral role in capturing Coruscant from the Imperial leadership there. After Rogue squadron is deemed successful, Wedge Antilles forms another squadron called Wraith Squadron. Both Wraith and Rogue squadrons work to defeat Warlord Zsinj.
The Hapan prince, Isolder, seeks the hand of Princess Leia for marriage to serve as a symbol of an alliance between the Hapes Cluster and the New Republic. Han Solo marries Leia Organa.
*As an aside, I just want to say that the "X-Wing" series and The Courtship of Princess Leia are among my favorite novels of all the Star Wars books.*

5 years after ROTJ

The events of the magnificent Timothy Zahn trilogy begin. This is where the Battle Zone time line and the Star Wars universe have their greatest divergence. The Imperial forces find the Katana fleet and begin to successfully utilize the ships in the mighty navy. The Noghri still learn of the treachery of the Empire and align themselves with the New Republic. Through his own genius, Grand Admiral Thrawn escapes death at the hand of his Noghri assassin, Ruhk.
Emperor Palpatine emerges and claims the Empire, rewarding Thrawn for his efforts. Palpatine orchestrates several battles that crush the New Republic and ultimately drives the control of the NR from Coruscant. The New Republic is recognized as officially defunct at this time. The Rebel Alliance reforms.

6-19 years after ROTJ

Though the New Republic officially disbanded, many of the worlds that had willingly aligned themselves to it stayed loyal as the Rebel Alliance reformed, providing the Alliance with a viable credit base and other resources (ships and weaponry, men and women to operate those ships and weaponry, food and medical supplies).
Luke Skywalker began his Jedi Academy on Yavin IV 7 years after ROTJ. This single event has given many great hope that the New Republic will once again be a reality.
During this time many battles are fought, boundaries are drawn and broken, and many people die.

20 years after ROTJ

The battle of Hapes. The battle of Hapes was merely a whim on the part of Domino de Devastator. Emperor Palpatine had given Domino control over the 2nd Imperial fleet, and Domino wanted to take the fleet on an "inspection cruise." Though the Imperial forces outnumbered the Rebel forces at the battle of Hapes, the Imperials retreated from the skirmish once they decided that they really had no objective in the Hapes Cluster. This battle was considered to be an Alliance victory. Though records of this battle exist, no one can vouch for the accuracy of those records. The battle of Hapes remains shrouded in mystery.

The battle of Mechis III. Mechis III was the second engagement for Domino's fleet, and a better test of his ability as a fleet commander. Mechis III was a droid manufacturing world. Toward the end of the space battle, a squad of Rebel commandos went to the surface of the planet and began demolition exercises on the buildings, hoping to make Mechis III a worthless hulk for the Empire, which appeared to be dominating the battle. This battle was considered an Imperial victory.

Tashannoc, the Wookiee Jedi Master, travels to a secret planet to recover a Sith artifact. Domino learns of the artifact as well and confronts Tashannoc. A mighty duel took place, ending in a draw. Neither Tashannoc nor Domino recovered the Sith artifact.

The battle of Dantooine. The Dantooine situation started when the Alliance reorganized a base on that backwater world. Imperial intelligence reported the base and the Imperial forces attacked. The Alliance had been able to respond quickly with their new MC-2600's. This battle was considered an Alliance victory.

The battle of Sullust. Home of the SoroSuub Corporation, Sullust allied itself with the New Republic when the Empire seemed to be waning. The objective for the Imperial forces was to drive the Alliance away from Sullust and take SoroSuub back for the Empire. This battle was a very serious engagement. One of the most significant events of this battle was the destruction of Admiral Ackbar's MC-2600, and Ackbar's apparent death. This battle was considered an Imperial victory.

The battle of Deominia. Lord Martel of the Nerakan Empire waged a personal war against Emperor Palpatine's Sith lords. He systematically hunted down and killed each one in single combat, with one exception. The exception was Dark Lady Schala. Martel utilized Schala's forces to bolster his own fleet for the impending space battle over Deominia.
Martel boldly traveled to Deominia to confront Domino de Devastator. The two Dark Masters fought a long and intense duel which ended when Martel sliced through Domino's torso, slaying the Deominian Lord. In the chaos, Martel was able to fight his way into the detention facility and rescue a very healthy Admiral Ackbar. Meanwhile, a mighty space battle was just beginning. Martel returned to his flagship and called the retreat of his forces just as Domino's cousin, Darin, returned from a personal mission with the 2nd Imperial fleet. This battle was not instrumental in relation to the galactic civil war (but it was fun to participate in).

I've been asked why I set the Battle Zone in an alternate reality. Well, the answer seems obvious to me. Removing the structure of the history provided by the novels gives us the ability to create new characters without the need to explain why "Character X" could be so special when he wasn't in "Y" situation. In addition, writing this page eliminates my need to explain that the NR does not exist on the Battle Zone every time someone writes something about the NR.
