AUTHOR'S GHOST HAUNTS COUNTY

Mysterious Apparition Baffles Local Couple

Swanson County authorities are investigating reports of a haunting. Dr. Byron Oglethorpe, Swanson County Vo-Tech Professor of Classics, and his wife Emily B. Oglethorpe, lecturer on Victorian Literature for the Swanson County Vo-Tech English Department, told police they were roused from a sound sleep by a strange tapping noise. Upon investigating, they discovered science fiction author Isaac Asimov using their typewriter. His recent death and his transparent appearance led them to conclude that Asimov was a ghost.

"We really didn't mind it, once we got used to the noise," said Professor Oglethorpe. "In fact, my wife rather enjoys having a celebrity haunting our study. She's been conducting tours for all the neighbors. Some of them said we ought to be charging admission."

Local medium Madame Lazonga conducted a seance in an attempt to contact the late author. Dr. Asimov, speaking through a spirit guide, stated that he was earthbound until he completed all his works-in-progress. He felt irresistibly drawn to the Oglethorpe typewriter and was compelled to use it to finish his latest novel.

The book, titled Insecure Foundation, is described as a topical science fiction novel based upon reports of corruption in the Swanson County construction industry. At Asimov's request, the Oglethorpes have had copies of the posthumous work printed and bound for sale to Swanson County tourists. Mrs. Oglethorpe plans to help Dr. Asimov autograph copies of the manuscript via automatic writing.

Mrs. Oglethorpe's sisters, Anne and Charlotte, are visiting the couple but apparently slept through the incident.
