The Dark Elf Trilogy

A wonderous piece of work! The Dark Elf Trilogy is about the early life of the Dark Elf Drizzt Do'Urden, a prelude to the Icewind Dale trilogy. Drizzt is a young drow who is unable to come to terms with the wicked ways of his people, being honorable and upright. Eventually, after many trials and suffering, he decides to leave his people and embark on a self-imposed exile which would lead him to the surface in the last book of the series Sojourn. What is like about this series is not only the vivd combat scenes, but also the depth of the characters and the emphasis on qualities such as comradeship and frequent reflections upon salvation and hope. Drizzt "himself" pens short essays in the novel, describing his experiences and feelings, just as a real person would. He is realistic to a great extent, talented and flawed in both ways, making mistakes as well as brave, admirable decisions in the course of the novel. My salute to Mr RA.Salvatore for writing such a riveting series !
