Opening the Program
When Dreamweaver opens, the Document window will display in the center of the monitor. The Floating panels displayed around the Document window contain the tools and buttons necessary to create HTML documents in the main Document window.

The floating panel to the left of the main Document Window is called the Objects panel. When first opened the objects panel displays a selection of common objects such as pictures, tables, forms, and other multimedia items. A drop down list can be opened from the top of the Objects panel to display a different category of buttons and selections offering various options used to insert text and images into the document being worked on. Use the Screen tips function by passing the mouse cursor over each button to display the function of each button on the Objects panel. Then move to the panel attached to the bottom of the Document window.

The toolbar located at the bottom of the Document window is called the Property Inspector. It is used to control various elements in the HTML document. The readings and content change as elements are selected and manipulated. For example, if a piece of text is selected the Property inspector can be used to change the font style and size or even attach a link to the text. (If this panel does not launch automatically, go the tool bar at the top of the page, click on Tools, and select Properties.)
The two on the right of the Document window are called Docked panels because they consist of multiple tabs linking multiple panels together. The HTML Styles tab is displayed in front at the upper right hand corner of the monitor and is used to create the formatting styles to be applied to the Web pages.

The Reference tab is located in the lower right docked panel and offers information for building Web sites from the O’Reilly set of reference books.
