Importing a Word HTML Document into Dreamweaver
Another way to create an HTML document for your site is by importing one from another location or created by another software program. For instance, some programs, such as Microsoft Word, will allow you to save documents in HTML but attach extra code that confuses Dreamweaver. As a result, Dreamweaver has a feature to import and clean up the extra codes from the files so it is compatible with other programs like Microsoft Word. Let’s try it.

Click File, then Import, and then click Import Word HTML.

A dialogue box will appear. Next, you need to enter the name of the Microsoft Word file you wish to import into Dreamweaver. Although you could browse to the folder containing the file, just type the full pathname of the document in the dialogue box and then press enter.

The Clean Up Word HTML dialogue box will appear and let you specify which components of the Microsoft Word HTML file should be modified. It is a good idea to leave all of the boxes checked that have been checked by the default settings on Dreamweaver. Wait until you become more familiar with the Dreamweaver program before changing the settings. Click the OK button and Dreamweaver will display a summary of the clean up in a new dialogue box. Click OK again.

Now you will see the converted file displayed in Dreamweaver. Even though the document has been converted, it still needs to be saved in HTML. Click File and then click Save As.

A Save As dialogue box will display. Name the file and then click the save button to save it in html. Again the file name will be displayed on the window title bar after it has been saved. Close the window and continue working with Dreamweaver.
