Working in Layout View continues...
Next, we are going to use the mouse to draw a table and three cells in the main document window. To guide us, we will use the Grid feature to create a guide to help us draw the table and cells and plan the document. To display a grid, first click View, select Grid, and then select Show Grid. The Grid will then be displayed.

The layout section of the Objects panel contains the Draw Layout Cell and Draw Layout Table buttons. The View section of the Objects panel contains the Standard view and Layout view buttons. To create a table you can either draw a table or draw a cell. If you draw a cell, the program will automatically create a table to contain the cell.

To draw a table, first click the draw Layout Table button and then drag the mouse cursor across the page to contain the number of grid boxes needed to create the table. Create a table by dragging the cursor from the upper left hand corner of the grid diagonally to within one box of the lower left hand corner. This will leave a row of grid boxes along the right hand side and the bottom of the grid outside of the table area.

After you do this you will notice the table area is shaded light grey and contained by a green borderline. A layout table tab will be inserted at the upper left hand corner and a number at the top of the table tells you how many pixels the table is wide.
