The above JAVA applet calculates and plots the current positions of the nine solar system planets. Use control buttons to Zoom, Rotate or Reset to default. Zoom in to observe the positions of the inner planets (ie mars, earth, venus, mercury). The orbital path markers are spaced 1 earth-year apart for the outer planets and 5 earth-days for the inner planets. Bright white dots denote positions above the earth-sun ecliptic, gray dots are used for positions beneath the ecliptic.
