Welcome to the Mecha Outpost! The Navpanel on the left appears on each page, allowing you to jump directly to the major features of the Outpost. Major features include:
Machine Evolution -- tells the story of the evolution of the mecha genre, from its genesis in Western sci-fi to its evolution in Japanese comics and animation, and the continuing fusion of mecha in the popular media of East and West.

Project Mecha -- Are mecha purely fictional, or is there a grain of fact buried in the slick armor? Project Mecha investigates how science fiction mecha designs have been inspired by science fact, and how close engineers are to creating them.

Gun Camera -- Contains general information and reviews on the defining TV series' and movies of the mecha genre.

Escape Pod -- Information on the latest mecha sims being developed for the PC and on anime-inspired RPG universes that prominently feature mecha.

Waypoints -- Links to some of the most interesting mecha-related websites on the 'Net.

Each section also has a Navbar (below the navpanel) that lists the major parts of that section. There are also links in the text (underlined and in red) to take you to other sections. If you get lost, just click on Entry Plug on the Navpanel, and you'll be back on this page.

About the Site

Mecha Outpost is a personal website dedicated to presenting general information about the mecha (or giant robot) genre of anime (Japanese animation). It can be reached through the URLs "http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Chamber/8190/" or "http://mechaoutpost.home.ml.org/".

What is Mecha?

The word 'mecha' is a Japanese term, which was originally used by anime fans and creators to mean just about any advanced mechanical device featured in anime. The debut of the Robotech series in the United States introduced the word to Western fans, and has come to refer to giant, piloted robots and battle suits. Mecha in the latter sense is what this site is all about.

What's so Super-Dimensional about this site, anyway?

Nothing, really. It just sounds cool. :) It's also in homage to the way most mecha-based anime shows have been entitled (i.e. Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Mobile Suit Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelion), a strange, old habit that also infected Japanese product names!
MO has been designed with the objective of producing a site that is compatible with every browser out there, while avoiding the typical pitfall of most websites: long load times. The fact that this site currently runs on Egocities --er-- Geocities makes this objective a challenge. As such, most images are in JPEG format, and, except for the CGI scripts the Geocities features use, these pages will remain Java-free and frameless. Unless there is demand for it, this site will not have any large multi-framed animated GIFs or annoying MIDI music playing in the background.

All of the HTML components of this site were created entirely with Notepad, just like in the Good Old Days.

The images used in this site belong to their respective creators and should not be used for commercial purposes without their permission.
