Lady Tigress

Just who is Lady Tigress anyway?

Let me introduce myself. I am the Lady Tigress. And, no, "Lady Tigress" is not redundant. Lady is a title, like Lady Guinevere. Why did I choose this name? Basically, my brother suggested the name Tigress as a nick when I visit chat rooms, but there are tons of Tigress aliases out there. So I added Lady to make it a little more unique.

Speaking of chat rooms, I got into IRC in November of '96 after some of my friends from school introduced me to it.

I used to hang in #atheism most Friday and Saturday nights, but that was quite awhile ago. I haven't really gotten back into the IRC thing. Too busy. But I used to really like it. For those of you with nothing much to do, drop by #atheism. It's not one of the default channels, so you'll have to type it in yourself. They're always in the mood for a little theological debate, or even just normal, non-denominational chatting. Usually it's one of the few chat-rooms that doesn't get raunchy late at night. In fact, after about 9 or 10 central time is when they have the most fun. Of course, there's almost always somebody there at any time of the day. If you're questioning the existence of your God, #atheism is the place to be. Who knows, maybe you'll log off with a clearer understanding of the world around you. Or maybe you'll just leave with a sense of having been banging your head against the wall for a good half-hour. Either way, they'd love to have you join them.

Go Tigress!

Lady Tigress attended Blue Valley High School . We were the Blue Valley Tigers. I know, I know, but believe me, it has nothing to do with my nick. It's purely coincidental. I was never the cheerleader type. The truth is, I always thought there were more important things to spend your energy on than showing your school spirit.

I'm happy to see that the school is on the web though. When I graduated in '96 they were just starting to build their first website. The way they handle it, each year a group of students is responsible for the site. These students actually learn to develop and maintain the site themselves. I think this is a really good thing for the students involved. Unlike many high school programs, this one actually helps the students build useful skills. It's not that hard make a web page, but many high school students haven't had a opportunity to even try. Anyway, I haven't visited the site in a while, but it looked pretty good last time I checked it out. Especially considering that it is a student-built high school site.

DeVry

Since then I've also graduated from the DeVry Institute of Technology in Kansas City. I've earned my Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. I graduated in June of '99. I'm now a web developer for R&D Associates. I write web pages all day, and so, of course, my own personal web page suffers from neglect.

I actually thought about going to art school instead. But I was fortunate enough to have some truly talented artists in my high school art class. Their work was the kind that make you stand back in awe. My work, though really nice, just didn't compare. That dose of reality helped me realize that my future did not lie along that path.

Though I'm aware that I'll never be a professional artist, my stuff still pretty good. Those Tigress pictures are just some of my masterpieces. If you want to see more, check out my Art Gallery . I've just recently improved it. There are a bunch of new pictures, though I still have quite a few laying around waiting to be scanned in. There are wierd ones like centaurs and demons as well as normal ones like self-portraits and people. I think it's worth a look, but then I'm probably biased.

Anyway, I decided I wanted to be a programmer after an introduction to it in high school. I took classes in Basic, Pascal, and C++. I thought it was really fun. I still do. In fact, I would have taken more languages, but I didn't have time. It was time to graduate. So, since I knew by then that I wanted to be a programmer, I had to find a college to take programming classes at. That's more-or-less how I ended up at DeVry.

This homepage was my first attempt to learn HTML. I thought it was fun. Plus it looked good on my resume.

Speaking of resumes, this web page helped me land a job. How? Well, I'm working at R&D Associates who, among other things, make webpages for other companies. Well, we do a lot more than that, but that's one thing we do. It started out as only a part-time thing, but I did get the title of Webmaster. I'm full time now with a regular salary. I'm not actually sure what my current title is. We've added a few new employees and moved to a new office in Overland Park, KS. I think I'm an Operations Programmer. The title really doesn't make any difference to me though. I'm paid decent and I like my work. That's what matters.

My company is also the R&D Associates. I'm actually the main person in charge of answering questions and solving problems for the GuestPad users. So, go get your own free GuestPad, or sign mine.

MyCart

One of my recent projects I'm really proud of is MyCart. It's an online catalog service. I'm a programmer, not a sales gal, so I won't give you a long impressive sales pitch. I'll just say that with MyCart you can quickly and easily create your own ecommerce site without having to code anything!

I tried to make it as easy and flexible as possible. I've had many customers tell me how much they like it, which is a real ego boost. They like something that, for the most part, I coded! Not that I coded the whole thing, of course. But most of what the customers actually see is stuff I wrote. Unfortunately that means if they don't like it it's usually my fault. But I don't get much of that. And when I do I usually make the necessary changes within a day or two. Much quicker if it's a serious problem. So I keep the customers happy one way or another. Anyway, if it sounds interesting, go to the website and take a look.

I don't spend all my time in front of a computer. Nothing terribly exciting, though. I watch TV. I draw. I paint. I go out with friends, I read. Probably I read the most. Usually at the same time I'm watching TV.

Hitchhiker Hitchhiker

I read mostly sci-fi and fantasy books. The best book in the Universe is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams or, for that matter, any of the books in that series. I have a whole page worth of stuff to say about these books. I even have pictures! Check out Lady Tigress's Hitchhiker's Guide Page.

I've recently started trying to learn to play the guitar. I got a nice black acoustic guitar (nothing fancy) and have been practicing nearly every day. It's fun. But just now all I can really play is Scarborough Fair. Oh well, with time I'll learn more. Maybe I'll even become good at it. :)

I got a new car! A cute little white '91 Miata. I don't have a picture of it up yet. I love it. The sun. The wind. The Mexican construction workers whistling at you when you drive by (I kid you not, it was a wierd experience). I think everyone should have a chance at one point in their lives to own a totally impractical little sports car. It's great!

My Saturn

I'm still trying to sell my old car, a '95 Saturn SC1. It is really a great car. It runs good and has never been in a wreck. It's never left me stranded. It always starts. It goes through the snow great. It doesn't leak oil. It's clean and in good condition. Automatic. Air. Unfortunately everyone's scared of it becouse it also has 195,000 miles on it. Which is a shame. It's amazing, but there's truly nothing wrong with it. If anyone wants to give me $3500 I'll sell it to them. Just email me. In fact, my mom was so impressed with my Saturn that she just bought a brand new one.

Oh, in case you noticed, that old car parked behind my Saturn is a shiny red, 1958 Plymouth Belvedere. It belongs to my brother. He's spent the past 4 years restoring it. Or, more precisely, replacing nearly everything because it's all old and worn out. It used to spend several days a month being repaired because something came loose or broke off or just stopped working. But I think he's finally gotten it working. Actually he's done a good job on it. It looks really good. And it's really loud too. I think my brother's especially proud of that.

Anyway, since I seem to be digressing anyway, I'll quit talking about everything under the sun and finish up the page.

I have two other pages you might like to check out.
