Welcome to MoonSet Weyr, a fan club of Anne McCaffrey's Pern. We are a group of McCaffrey fans dedicated to enjoying this enchanting world of empathic dragons, engaging people, and their struggle against Thread for survival. Here you will find out who we are, what we do in this club, and how you can join in on the fun!
MoonSet Weyr takes place, time-wise, in the 12th Pass of the Red Star. That's about 750 Turns after the events that took place in the original Dragonriders of Pern trilogy. A lot has changed since those events: the Southern Continent is sparsely inhabited and has many abandoned Weyrs due to a plague that decimated the continent. The Northern Weyrs are still there, but the South is nearly as low on people as before AIVAS was discovered. From a Fannish History standpoint, many of the events in ALL THE WEYRS OF PERN didn't happen. Landing is still there, and they found many of the Ancients' artifacts, but sadly, AIVAS didn't work. That's to keep Anne's Pern and the world we play in comfortably (and legally) separate. We at Moonset adhere strictly to the World of Pern as it existed before AIVAS.

Fictionally, MoonSet Weyr is located near the old Cove Hold and Ancient's Plateau and the Two-faced Mountain of The White Dragon.
The Weyr is named MoonSet because while the moon is setting, this Weyr is the place where the region is most illuminated by Belior's light (one of Pern's two moons). Thus the name MoonSet Weyr.

How to Join MoonSet

Online Membership to the MoonSet Weyr is free. You can post on the bulletin board, attend online gathers, submit stories and articles to the 'zine, attend online meetings, interact with other members of the Weyr, and generally have a good time.
There are three ways to become a dragonrider at MoonSet Weyr:
1) Impress a Hatchling
2) Backdate
3) Transfer From a Different Weyr

At present there are openings for all positions except goldrider. All major positions come with requirements which includes such things as rp participation, email round participation, weyr record keeping, and submittals for the 'zine.

A'nen -- M, H=Brown/Black, E=Green, HT=6'2". Lean and muscular. Fun loving and a dreamer on the ground but all business and precision when training or fighting thread. Weyrleader with the charming Weyrwoman Jerita and Wingleader of DreamScape Wing he is very busy but still not too busy to enjoy the occaisional runner ride on the daughter of his beloved stallion Lud. Rider of bronze Myfanwynth and proud owner of newly hatched brown flitter Tyro.

Quinta -- F: H=Deep Auburn, E=Light Green, Ht= 5'6": Fighting fit and on the go. Retired WeyrWoman from Ista. Having led Ista through 16 turns of fighting thread Quinta and Myntath are ready to retire and have settled in quite happily at Moonset. Myntath's first flight at Moonset seems to have strengthened her friendship with M'kael and they are often seen together at Weyr and Hold gatherings. Gold Myntath and Quinta keep an eye and ear open for the weyrlings and distressed riders. She is quite good at listening and helping people through their grief and losses.

K'lae --F, H=Sable, E=Brown/Green, HT=5'2". Craftbred and trained in the art of jewelry making, this young lady at first appears very serious but once she makes friends she loves to play jokes and tease. She has taken her weyrling training very seriously; she shows the potential and hopes someday to be a wingleader. Her best friend is Jarisa with whom she enjoys early morning runner rides and she maintains a close sister-like friendship with Weyrleader A'nen who found her while on Search for Moonset Weyr. Green firelizard Rylin, and rider of green Quoriath.

B'tron--M, H=Dark Brown, E=Choc Brown, Ht=5'9". Stockily built and in top physical condition from his work in the forests with his father. He loves to explore caves and tunnels. His family was very close with his sisters sharing in his explorations; he enjoys the company of youngsters and is very careful for their safety when they join in on his explorations. He has two dark gray felines, Sneak and Pounce and a very small blue flitter, Curio. He and brown Tygreth make a good pair as Tygreth is as clumsy on the ground as B'tron is with fragile items.

Tatalia -- F, H=Deep Brown, E=Dark Green, Ht= 5'6". Lean and muscular from handling beasts and dragons. Entered Beastcraft Hall at 11 turns and after learning the basics specialized in Dragonhealing. She requested her Journeyman posting be at Moonset Weyr to further her training in dragonhealing. She gets plenty of practice helping Dragonhealer Reebsa after threadfall and Queen flights. She would someday like to Impress a Dragon but is content as Beasthealer.

Yanna -- F, H=Black, E=Dk. Brown, HT=5'5". Slight, elfin featured Yanna is paralyzed below the hips. Yanna gets around easily in her dog cart pulled by Banner and Flag. As a Journeyman Scribe she is assigned to restore the maps of the weyr and then expand the area by exploring on runner and dragon. Yanna is very friendly and easy to talk with; she respects confidences and has a good shoulder to cry on. She has a very secret hope that someday a hatchling would find her worthy. Messenger and errand runner bronze flitter Myrr.
