Characters Introduced in Star Wars Trilogy

Luke Skywalker: Son of Anakin Skywalker, student of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Master Yoda, brother to Princess Leia Organa (Solo). Later becomes the only Jedi Master in the New Republic establishing the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4.
(Princess) Leia Organa Solo: Adopted daughter of Bail Organa of an influantial house on Alderaan (destroyed planet), sister to Luke Skywalker, fiancee of Han Solo, mother of the twins Jacen and Jaina and their little brother Anakin. The Chief of State to the New Republic (after Mon Monthma's resignation).
Han Solo: Smuggler, friend of Chewbacca the Wookie, husband to Leia Organa Solo, father of Jacen, Jaina and young Anakin.
Chewbacca: A wookie who has a life debt to Han Solo. Stays with the Solo family even though he has paid that debt many times.
Darth Vader: A dark lord of Sith, right hand of the Emperor, father of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. Once the brilliant fighter pilot, Anakin.
Emperor Palpatine: The ruthless ruler to the Empire. Once a senator in the Old Republic Senate.
Mon Monthma: Founder of the Rebellion, former Chief of State to the New Republic. Once a senator in the Old Republic Senate.
Admiral Ackbar: A calamarian who once was a slave to Grand Moff Tarkin. Highest ranking official in the New Republic fleet.
General Crix Madine: Supreme Allied Commander for Intelligence. Once an promising Imperial official, joined the Rebellion and brought much information.
(General) Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi Knight who once played an important role during the Clone Wars. Mentor to Luke Skywalker.
Master Yoda: A Jedi Master of several centuries. Mentor to Luke Skywalker.
Wedge Antilles: Friend to Luke Skywalker, a devoted pilot, after years of flying with the Rouge Squadron, becomes a general in the New Republic fleet.

Characters Introduced in The Thrawn Trilogy (by Timothy Zahn)

Grand Admiral Thrawn: The only non-human imperial grand admiral, a complete tactical genius.
Vice Admiral (later Admiral) Pellaeon: Right hand of Thrawn, a loyal and disciplined imperial admiral, captain to the Imperial Star Destroyer Chimaera.
Mara Jade: A force sensitive lady, once known as the Hand of the Emperor, works for Talon Karrde, later for the smugglers' alliance. First tries to kill Luke Skywalker, later falls in love with him.
