I am very proud of my accomplishments within the Boy Scout program. I am actually going to brag here for a second, so if you gag easily, feel free to exit this page!
I have been involved in Boy Scouts for 9 years. I have received awards in the areas of Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader, Den Leader Coach, Distingushed Commissioner, the District Award of Merit, Scouter's Training Award, District Committee Award, Trainer of the Year Award and The Sparkplug Award.
I have served as chairman of various activities including Webelos Do Your Best. Key Staff positions include Webelos Do Your Best, Camporee, Cuboree and Day Camp - have been on staff at Day Camp for the past 7 years. Staff positions at the Council level include events such as Pow-Wow, University of Scouting, Commissioner Conference, and Commissioner Basic Training. District level: I have been Cubmaster of several Webelos Leader's Outdoor Trainings and Cub Leader Basic Training. I have also held the district positions of Youth Protection Chairman, District Dinner Chairman, Webelos Training Coordinator, and Asst. District Commissioner. I am currently the District Training Chairman - which means I am responsible for ALL training within the district. Which also means I have to be responsible for the administrative aspect of training now and have been introduced and inducted into the world of Boy Scout "politics" *growls* I am also a merit badge counselor for Boy Scouts and teach at the Trail to Eagle summer camp. I also attended Philmont Training Center in New Mexico (training sessions are by invitation only) for Commissioner Services. The family went with me and enjoyed a week of hiking, camping, and all around fun - while I sat in a classroom :-/ *L* But, I look forward to returning to Philmont as soon as possible.
I had the priviledge of hosting a group of 10 boys from Paucha, Mexico while they were here for the International Boy Scout Encampment. I had the opportunity to meet scouts from all over the world :-). I still keep in touch with some of my friends from Pachua :-)
The most difficult and yet rewarding accomplishment was to have completed Trainers Woodbadge, where I am a very proud member of the Fox Den of SR-CS-5. I was elected their permanent den leader, thus the nickname MAMA FOX. (Thought is was something kinky, huh? ;-) ) Our den of seven was the only den from SR-CS-5 that completed their Woodbadge committments and received 100% of their beads. I know that unless you are in Scouting, you probably have no idea of what I am talking about..... but it is something we Fox scouters are proud of! :-) I am one of 4 Woodbadgers currently involved at the District level. We have over a thousand volunteers in our district, so it is an honor to be among the few that have made it.
I have also completed the practical session of Boy Scout Woodbadge and am now working on tickets for SR-301. I have been double blessed with being in the Fox patrol. I guess that makes me a fox-fox *chuckles* It was a physical challenge for me and I'm glad that part is over with. I discovered that I'm not really into backpacking.....
I am also involved in my son's troop as the troop secretary, Summer Camp chairman, and I sit on Board of Reviews for boys advancing in rank. OK... that's my scouting resume...
We are certainly a scout family.... Michael has served on summer camp staff for two years and my husband is an involved member of committee at the troop level. My proudest moment in Scouting though will be when my son receives his Eagle Award and Rank.
