I've got a small collection of exotic pets.. mostly small, handsized critters.
I have a small colony of giant madagascan hissing cockroaches. Yeah.. I know.. they're roaches.. but please.. just for a second, let go of your preconceptions, they aren't gross, they don't carry diseases, they aren't pests, they don't bite, they don't stink, they have rather interesting markings, plus they don't require alot of maintenance. I have 7 adults at the moment, 3 males, and 4 females I believe...I should be able to have a serious breeding colony going in several months. each female should lay 20-30 eggs at a time.. give them 2-3 months to mature, and then do the same.. and we're in business. I feed them a mixture of crushed monkey chow (basically large dog food for monkey's), with a variety of crushed dog food, with bone meal and a few other vitamins crushed into a powered in mixed.
The idea here is that these are large, tropical insects, that need a rather healthy diet. I want them to be able to breed fast and succesfully, so nutitrion is important.. these will eventually be a cheap source of food for my other pets, and we all know the saying, you are what you eat? The better I feed them, the healthier my pets will be...
I also have a new baby savannah monitor. He's maybe 8 inches long including his tail... give him a year.. he'll be a foot long, 3-4 years, about 4 feet long... Hopefully he'll be a house pet in the future. much the same as a small dog, except he'll be lazy as can be. On to my other pets...Er, one problem, I havn't sexed him yet (meaning I don't know if he, is a he, or a she, but for ease of use, I'll refer to him, as him, or he.. yes.. that made perfect sense.)
2 leopard geckos, 1 male, 1 female. 2 rose hair tarantulas, 1 male, 1 female...1 giant marine toad (bufo marinus!), 2 salamanders, 1 yellow spotted salamander,1 spring salamander, a female tokay gecko.... 1 giant vietnamese millipede...
Awhile ago, I caught a copperhead in a neighbors yard...wasn't sure what to do with it.. no way would I kill a snake. not even a deadly one...so I kept him a week.. took some nice pics, and let him go WAY back in the mountains.. (about 3 miles from a place called, lost creek).
I don't have pics of all my pets, but here are the ones I do (with links to other web sites with more pics/info at the bottom)
