Fritz the Nanday Conure

I met Fritz at a local Petsmart, he came in with a nest mate at 4 months old.

They had just finished weaning these 2. One quickly was purchased and Fritz began his wait for a home.

I would see Fritz month by month, and would always visit with him. It was obvious that this bird was not getting the amount of socializing and attention he needed, and he became nippy.

The staff feared his large beak, and Fritz spent more and more time in his plastic box. He got more frustrated and started to bite to keep humans from bothering him.

I started to make a special trip every weekend just to see Fritz. You could see how the staff avoided him, and this reinforced his biting behaviour.

I could take Fritz out and he was very sweet, he just needed someone who understood him, and would cuddle him. So, every weekend I'd be at the store walking sweet Fritz around for a couple of hours.

He would scream, when I came into his sight, and hang from the lid of his box, just beside himself. He would also scream when I left.

It got harder and harder to leave him there. I finally called head office in Phoenix, and pulled some strings to get the store to sell him to me for a reduced price. Ransomed Fritz out, and now he has the life he has the right to have in this human world we forced them into.

Here are some pics of this beautiful Nanday. He is a total character and is a wonderful bird.
