This page consists of three of my favorite songs. I love music in general, but I chose these for the lyrical merit. I think they speak volumes about the human condition, and all that intellectual stuff :)
Anyway, enjoy...

My all time favorite song, if you have never heard it, find it somewhere.
Patterns, Paul Simon, 1965

The night sets softly, with the hush of falling leaves
Casting shivering shadows, on the houses through the trees
And the light from a street lamp, paints a pattern on my wall
Like the pieces of a puzzle, or a child's uneven scrawl.

Up a narrow flight of stairs, in a narrow little room
As I lie upon my bed, in the early evening gloom
Impaled on my wall, my eyes can dimly see
The patterns of my life, and the puzzle that is me

From the moment of my birth, to the instant of my death
There are patterns I must follow just as I must breath each breath
Like the rat in a maze, the path before me lies
And the pattern never alters, until the rat dies

And the pattern still remains, on the wall where darkness fell
And it's fitting that it should, for in darkness I must dwell
Like the color of my skin, or they day that I grow old
My life is full of patterns, that can scarcely be controlled

I think anyone that has been in any relationship can relate to this. I know I can!
The Stranger, Billy Joel, 1977

Well we all have a face, that we hide away forever
and we take them out and show ourselves when everyone has gone
Some are satin, some are steel, some are silk and some are leather,
They're the face of the stranger, but we love to try them on.

Well we all fall in love but we disregard the danger,
Though we share so many secrets, there are some we never tell
Why were you so surprised, that you never saw the stranger?
Did you ever let your lover see the stranger in yourself?

Don't be afraid to try again, everyone goes south, every now and then
You do it why can't someone else?
You should know by now, you've been there yourself

Once I used to believe, I was such a great romancer
Then I came home to a woman, that I could not recognize
When I pressed her for a reason she refused to even answer,
It was then I felt the stranger kick me right between the eyes

You may never understand how the stranger is inspired,
But he isn't always evil and he isn't always wrong
Though you drown in good intentions,
You will never quench the fire
You'll give in to your desire
When the stranger comes along

Just because this is a great beatles tune!
Yesterday, John Lennon and Paul McCartney

Yesterday,
All my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh I believe in yesterday

Suddenly,
I'm not half the man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me,
Oh, yesterday came suddenly

Why she had to go, I don't know. She would not say.
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday,
Love was such an easy game to play,
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday
