Final Fantasy III
Super Nintendo/Playstation Game
[7-10-2001 11:40 AM]

I loved the cast of characters and the variety of skills presented in Final Fantasy III. Instead of having one main character and other minor characters, this game had several main characters and in some places let you play more than one party at a time. An example of this is the final castle, in which you have to make three seperate groups to wander around setting switches to advance through the castle. Besides equiping espers to learn spells, the accessories you equip grant special bonuses and abilities. I found three particularly lethal combinations of accessories.

The first is combining the Offering, which allows four hits, with the Genji Glove, which allows dual wield, enabling a total of 8 hits per round. The second is combining the Dragonboots, which allows a character to jump, and the Dragonhorn, which allows multiple hits when jumping.

The third and most powerful is combining the Gembox, which allows a character to cast two spells a round, with an Economizer, which makes all spells only cost one magic point, leading to almost endless spell use. My personal favorite was to cast Quick and Ultima in the first round, and then since Quick almost immediately gives you another turn, cast Ultima two more times... doing almost 30000 damage to all enemies on the screen before they even attack, while only using 4 magic points!

There is only one way to get the Gembox but two ways to get an Economizer. The Gembox is aquired in the Mage Tower in the second half of the game. If you gamble your Gembox at arena, you win an Economizer. Don't do it! Economizers are also occasionally dropped by Brachiosaurs, about one in four chance, in the Dinosaur forest.

Dinosaur forest is a forest area in the northeast part of the map, in the second half of the game. You know you are in the forest because you only encounter two types of enemies, the T-rex looking dinos and the Brachiosaurs. Both are hard to kill but the Brachiosaurs are especially tough, doing about 4000 damage to all party members almost every round. Luckily there is a trick to kill Brachiosaurs!

When you encounter a Brachiosaur, have the character with the Gembox cast Vanish followed by Xzone on the Brachiosaur. Vanish makes a creature unhittable, but more vulnerable to magic... and Xzone takes advantage of the weakness to magic by outright killing the creature. After a couple Brachiosaurs you should have an economizer, without having to forfeit your Gembox! Plus I found this forest to be the best place to level up after level 40.
