This game is more about the strategy involved in each battle than adventuring. The storyline automatically takes you into the next battle where you can lead more than 10 characters into combat. Since the enemies' levels are based on the level of the main character, there isn't any reason to level up. If Ash is level 10 you fight level 10 enemies, and so on.

There is an alternate ending if you can find all of the secret keys. The keys open up extra levels. Each extra level yields a prism. After collecting all the prisms Ash can advance to the rank of Vandalier at the dojo. Having Ash be a Vandalier leads to a different ending.
