THE EMPTY QUARTER: Poems of the Road

These poems were written in the night, out there, and alone. These are for anyone who has every wanted to be somewhere else, but needed to take the Journey to get there.

Drifter

Darkness falls, a warm wind blows,
the Drifter runs across the world.
Empty roads call out my name
to lead me down an empty path.

A siren song that guides my way,
a tale once told, as fate revealed.
a traveler trapped inside this maze.
The Drifter waits for love

Out on the rim,
the space breathes.
Beyond the event horizon,
our dreams rise and fall

waiting for the next rider
to break through.
Five times my life has led me this way,
This is the last.

Five times im turned away.
After the final call,
life begins anew
like tears in rain.

Finding rivers of shade
and the pool of light

*****

The sun beats down
on a weary day,
Another mad mile I walked away.

The heat of the star
shone in the sky,
as I continued to live a lie

A prison is walls
is mortar and stone,
but the prison I live
I built alone.

From death and pain
comes a towering foe,
and every day passes
still lets me know.

High in the sky
cold fire is burning,
Hard in the heart
another love yearning.

The fire of love
which finds me tonight,
gives me a pause
from tireless flight.

Driving again, into the night,
Orion, Arcturaus, my only companions.
Moving west away from you,

once again.
My thoughts blend the pleasure
that was shared in that moment,
Lasting forever in my mind.

My trusty horse silently speeds,
knowing the sadness I feel
in wanting to stay.

But I move farther on.

Ripe rain begins to fall
like a soft drum beating in the distance.
The beat of the rain in my heart.

Longing to hold you one second more
look into your eyes,
telling of love.
In the silence of a kiss

traveling faster, knowiing I will return,
and my heart will be full again.

One day to end the midnight flight,
that tears me apart missing you.

Kyries Moon

It shines in the night
like a beacon of life,
Guiding me to her
and a smile so kind.

A golden hue set
by a backdrop of black satin,
and glittering diamonds
moves me a mile closer.

When sunrise comes
and the moon sleeps,
she waits for me
to end the long journey.

And when darkness comes
she greets me,
with a smile that
shines like Kyries Moon

Leaving Quartzite

Fire in my heart
warms passage cold.
Memories of you
makes careless mind bold.
The mirror reflects
the border behind,
and leaving Quartzite
with you on my mind.

The dust of an age
does blow in my face,
The empty miles
ahead i do race.

The lights I do pass
so quickly from sight,
but leaving Quartzite
alone in the night.

The fire now distant
in darkness I tread,
My love waits glowing
in starlight ahead.
