A Solitary Soldier

A solitary soldier, turning in the night pacing
back and forth, in time trodden tracks dust
rising from the ground, lifeless and cold drifting
without aim, choking the lungs of all who breathe

A solitary soldier, a storm tossed pilgrim,
journeying across the water, floating desperately
to nowhere crying silently for someone, anyone
to come but there is no one, for nobody cares

A solitary soldier, soaring through the dark
silver light shining down, icy and unfeeling
a cruel wind blowing everywhere, chilling
souls and silencing voices raised in prayer

A solitary soldier, alone in the night
always on the road, going to nowhere
praying for peace and wishing for hope
there's a solitary soldier crying all alone
