AG00020_.gif (6100 bytes)    If you are like me you don't get to travel very often. The occasional trip to a relatives home is the best I can usual count on. Holidays are generally spent exactly two-and-a-half hours away from my home, at my Uncle's house. There is some place I have always dreamed of going...Amsterdam!

Come with me as I share a few things I have learned about what it takes to travel to the beautiful country of Holland, via Amsterdam.

First of all...Jet2.wmf (1412 bytes) to travel to Amsterdam usually requires a plane ticket. You can research airfares on the Internet by going to any number of Search Engines and looking up "airfares," "travel," and other words that would relate to traveling. I went through a Search Engine and typed in "Amsterdam." You can click on the picture of Amsterdam above to go to the same site I visited, which is also the same site I barrowed the photo from.

When traveling in Amsterdam there are lot's of "do's" and "dont's." For instance, driving is not recommended in the city. This is because parking is extremely limited, the streets are over-crowded, and the one-way systems and speed of local drivers can be hazardous to those not accustomed to this type of environment. There is also NO FREE PARKING!! In the center of town, you must purchase a parking ticket or you will be fined. And, fines are pricey...so consider another option of touring the city. There are several options of public transport, as opposed to driving, that can be faster and more convenient than driving yourself! Trams, busses, intercity trains...or hop on a bicycle! You can purchase tickets, called "stippenkaarts" (strip tickets) that are valid for several types of public transportation. The websites I provided you with will help you find more information on buying the tickets. If you do choose to tour by bicycle, make sure you stay out of the other byciclist's way. Don't stop to look at your map in the middle of the lane! Plan your day so that you will have a smooth transition between activities, and try to research how you will get from place-to-place before you head out. This will help you alleviate a lot of frustrations before they can occur. Above all...be flexible and HAVE FUN!!!!

Did you know the Van Gogh Museum is in Amsterdam? Click Van Gogh's self-portrait to visit a website about Van Gogh's life, his art, and the museum and it's contents.
