Stephen King

I’m currently working my way through Stephen King’s books. I still have loads to go but I have a whole life ahead. So this will be added to as I read them. In my opinion Stephen King is the best horror writer around. James Herbert is good but King is better.

Terry Pratchett

Ok, this may be an author you have heard about, if not you must have been living under a rock for the past 15+ years. He is the author of the brilliant Discworld stories. If you haven't read the book you may have seen the plays or played the computer game. I've just recently got back into these after a few years away and they do get better as you get older. I just love the whole concept of a world that is disc shaped and supported on the backs of four elephants who stand on a giant turtle who swims through the universe. That is a seriously fun world in which to live IMHO. As usual, here's the list of books that will be added to as I go...

The Colour of Magic
The Light Fantastic
Equal Rites
Mort
Sourcery
Wyrd Sisters

Other (for lack of a better title)

Ok, I don’t just read LJS and King and Pratchett. I read a load of other horrors and even some classics. One of my fav non LJS or King books would have to be Animal Farm by George Orwell. So, this is probably a book loads of people had to read in school. I escaped that so enjoyed reading it. It’s one of those books that makes you think. Those oppressed rise up and take over but then make the same mistakes as their oppressors did and anything that they aimed to achieve is lost.

I’ve also read a lot of Shakespeare and Dante’s Inferno. (Now there’s a book that requires concentration!) I also like Louisa May Alcott (Little Women and all the follow ups.)

Other than those you get all the Dean Koontz books as my alternative horrors. Another tpye of book I have got used to reading are those wonderful true stories. Not just any true stories but ones covering a subject I have a great interest in...Well, I am studying for it at Uni! Viruses...more to the point Ebola. I guess you could class this as a horror genre too. Come on, what could be more terrifying than a real disease that kills 90% of the people it infects in a few days?! 'The Hot Zone' and 'Virus Hunters' are a couple of my favs.
