My Top 5 Countdowns

Top 5 Films

Since my fav film list has increased I'm giving this part it's own section. It'll be up and running by the end of 2001 with any luck. Hmm, since I wrote this in January 2001 and it's now 2002 maybe I was being optimistic. Oops! *g* I'll get to it ASAP...Beats working on my dissertation.

  1. Good Morning Vietnam - Robin Williams plays DJ Adrian Cronauer in this film set during the Vietnam War. (Duh!) This has some great comedy but also has some serious parts that make you think.

  2. American Beauty - Ok, this film might have some strange parts but there are also some scenes that stick in the mind. It's different and does have a good message running through it, and no I'm not talking about drugs or slacking off work.

  3. The Shawshank Redemption - Another of Stephen King's novella's that was adapted for the screen. The novella is called 'Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption'. This film has great humour and good acting from Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. It's got a good ending to it as well.

  4. When a Man Loves a Woman - Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia star in this film about an alcoholic and the struggle that both her and her husband go through in order to keep the family together. A really powerful film IMO.

  5. The Sixth Sense - Great film. An ending that you wouldn't expect. To quote a postcard over here : "A film over flowing with only this time Bruce Willis didn't kill them all".

There are loads more but I guess those are my favs at the moment.

Top 5 Music (Groups and Solo)

Hmm, I really can't think of just 5 to put on a list. So put it this way I listen to pretty much any music except country and dance (That is unless I'm in a club.) Some people that pop into my head at the moment are Blink 182, Sarah McLachlan, Veruca Salt, Bif Naked, Crowded House, Dido etc. The list is endless. However the SClub7 and Steps would not be included even way down there at the bottom. They have a whole different list which is at the bottom.

Top 5 TV Shows

  1. Friends - It might be your classic group of 20's with their problems in life but hey, it's better than the real world.

  2. Buffy - What can I say? It's Buffy!

  3. Roswell High - This would have to be the X-files replacement. X-files got old and this is different. Some nice parallels with real life. Well, it is sci-fi which I love.

  4. Ally McBeal - I must love this if I stay up till nearly 1am when I have to get up early the next day. Some of the quotes you get from this are totally classic.

  5. Casualty - This one most people probably haven't heard of. It's a hospital drama set in England. One of my favs in all the years it has been showing which is quite a few now. It's worth watching just to see how the series is going to end whether it be by the hospital being blown up, burnt down, taken over by a armed nutter or something else.

Top 5 Most Hated Things (To be added to at a later date)

Ok, before you read this if you are a fan of the SClub7, Teletubbies or South Park and have no sense of humour stop reading now. If that doesn't apply to you carry on. These are just my opinions and mean no harm to the people mentioned.

  1. SClub7 and other teeny bopper rubbish - Sorry to any fans out there but well, I really can't stand their songs or image or well, anything about them.

  2. Teletubbies - If you need to ask why then I guess you haven't seen the show. I'm sorry but how can a bunch of people in coloured suits who can't talk properly have any educational value for kids? Everything about this show annoys me from the 'Over the hills and far away, Teletubbies come out to play' to the time when that screaming baby in the sun (Don't you think it does some eye expressions that look like they are straight out of 'The Shining'? All it needs is instead of screaming to turn around and say 'Here's Johnny!') goes down. Ok I really don't like the Teletubbies. Sorry to any fans out there.

  3. South Park - After a few episodes where they utter the words 'Oh my god, they killed Kenny' it just loses it's humour. No matter if he is shot, run over, burned he's always back the next week. I just didn't find this one amusing at all.

  4. All these fly on the wall documentaries. - Everyone loved 'Driving School'. Lets face it seeing one person, after having thousands of pounds worth of driving lessons, fail so badly to reverse around a corner that she nearly drives into someone's house…repeatedly…It's just fun. The fact that she passed her 11th attempt at a driving test is just plain terrifying but there you go. Now there's a documentary about everything. I'm sorry but as a student the last thing I want to see is a student house with a cockroach population equal to that of China!

  5. Steps - I was never a big fan of their music but after hearing 'Tragedy' played continuously for about 2 hours, courtesy of my roommate, you develop a deep set loathing. (For the music, not the roommate. Honest. Really.) Best news of 2001? Has to be this bunch breaking up!
