Clive Wright Biography
Clive was born Aug 2nd 1957 in Elm Park England , he was educated in Upminster, England , and attended East ham Art College where he attained a degree in fine art and graphic design,
His first notable achievements in music were as Lead guitarist with Island recording artists ‘Under the Sun’. the band was popular on the English College and Club circuit during the mid 70’s , and played several times in London’s Famed, Marquis Club, and other prominent Clubs in Europe.
Thereafter Followed a collaboration with Singer and writer,Pete Burns of ‘Naked Eyes’ who had had a huge U.S. hit with the songs ‘All Ways Something there to Remind me’ and ‘Promises Promises’ they recorded a song with the help of Peter Gabriel in 1978 , it was entitled ‘Another Day’ it was written by Clive , and was to be released by I.R.S. records stateside in 1980. It became a favorite of famed English D.J. Johny Walker who would frequently play it on Radio Luxemburg, Europe’s biggest Radio Station.
Upon Moving to the U.S.A. in 1980 Clive created a band with singer,writer John Mark, it was then named ‘Broken English’ and became a major attraction on the Los Angeles Club seen, the band with Clive on lead guitar played the Famed ‘Whisky a Go Go’ several times to capacity crowds. after a Recording Company bidding war which included Geffen and Capital , they signed to Polygram records under the name ’Broken Edge, their debut album was played on L.A’s K.R.O.Q. radio . and song collaboration between Clive and John Mark was included in the hit Movie ‘Karate Kid’
However real Success did not come for Clive as a Guitarist, Performer, and Recording artist until he combined talents with Peter Kingsbery and Anna Loscalso to form ’Cock Robin’, the band quickly became a strong and noticeable force in Los Angeles, within a year they were Columbia recording artists . they played the Dick Clark American Bandstand and appeared on the Johny Carson Show as a personal Favorite of Mr Carson. Video ‘When Your Heart is Weak’ filmed by Director David Hogun in the California Joshua Tree desert,was played in heavy rotation on the then young M.T.V. they also played national U.S. tours with Billy Idol,Bryan Adams, and the Kinks, performing at New York’s Madison Square Gardens in 1985.
In the same year they Flew to Europe to promote their Album. They they were a smash! they had three Singles , ‘When Your Heart is Weak’ ‘Thought You Were On My Side’ and ‘The Promise You Made’ all of which went gold in France, Germany, and Holland, the Album ‘Cock Robin’ went Platinum in France, top Ten in England and subsequent ‘Best of Cock Robin’ compilations have gone gold as recently as 1992.
Clive played extensively with the band throughout Europe headlining and playing for crowds of 40,000 alongside ‘the Cure’ ‘the Cult’ ‘Fine Young Cannibals’ ‘James Taylor’ and more. his reputation as a guitarist grew and he was invited to record and play with other artists, including Singer ‘Kim Carnes’ with whom he appeared on ‘Solid Gold,’ he also recorded an album in Rockfield , England with B.M.G. artists ‘Human Drama’
in 1987, Clives career took a new turn, he composed the score to a movie entitled "South of Reno’ this beginning led to succession of work writing and playing for , Film , Commercials and Video productions. He honed skills as a composer and producer of dance, Techno, and R&B music producing music for numerous Aerobic videos for the fitness Star Kathy Smith, it was this path which led him to writing and producing with Montel Jordan in 1992. tracks written and recorded at Clives Joshua Tree Studio caught the attention of John Singleton ,Montel was quickly signed to Def Jam and the songs were featured on Montel Jordans, Billboard #1 , Gold debut Album ‘ This is How We Do It ,
Today Clive has many credits as a Composer, Producer and Guitarist. in 1996 he produced his own album working with Singers Jim Kyle and Fred Martinez, to record ‘the Desert Sky Blues’ . this classic blues band has turned some heads with it’s fiery yet sophisticated mix of music, and with extensive Radio airplay and Club Dates Clive is becoming noticeable as a World Class artist with a big Future!
