Even
in the womb, the 7th month baby reacts to the mother's soothing
touch and soft whispers. When the baby is born, he possesses the
basic connections of neurons to help him survive, like the ability
to cry when in pain or when hungry or uncomfortable. The rest of the
brain connections are not yet set. If these connections are not
strengthened, they will fade away.
This scientific finding
provides parents an insight of this wonderful stage in their
infant's life, and their capabilities to become positive
contributors to their baby's cognitive development. Since the
rest of the brain's connections are not yet developed fully, what
can the parents do to help develop them?
Strengthen
the Brain Connections Through Music
Soothing structured
classical music especially those of Mozart have been
found effective in developing the connections in the
brain used for mathematics, logic, and abstract thinking.
Early development of these connections
through music and through tapes of nursery rhymes, the
alphabets (any languages) will strengthen them and
prevent them from fading away.
