One way to spruce up a dull looking pony is to style it's hair. This is also a good solution to cut and untamable locks. There are two basic types of styles:
Beautiful Braids
A mane or tail of braids can look very elegant if done correctly.
You will need:
- Hairbrush
- Dental rubberbands
- Ribbon
- Braiding book (optional)
Begin by separating the hair into three equal pieces. A mane should have about four braids and a tail can be anywhere from one to three. Braid the hair until you have about an inch left. Then, rubber band the end. Use dental rubber bands because they will not disintegrate in your pony's hair over time and leave a gooey mess. Then take about 10 inches of ribbon and tie a bow at the end to hide the rubber band. Then step back and admire!
Variations:
You can also braid your pony's hair in a rope or herring bone. A rope looks just like a rope and is really quite simple. 1. Take your three sections and twist the right section to the right. 2. Cross it over both of the other sections. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 always twisting the right section to the right.
A herring bone is basically a really narrow braid. The more narrow the strands of hair you use, the prettier the braid will be. 1. Divide the hair into two sections. 2. Pull a narrow strand of hair from underneath the left section. 3. Take it over the left section and add it to the right section. 4. Do the same thing on the right side. 5. Repeat until the braid is the desired length.
Ponytail Pleasures
This style only works on the mane (obviously) but is fun and unusual. There are many different ways to play with the ponytail- you can do a full mane of regular ones, a partial mane, or style it like they do for real horse shows. To do the Horse Show Style 1. take a section of hair and wrap it over (not around) your baby finger. 2. Secure at the base of your finger. Again, there are many different ways to do this style so experiment and above all BE CREATIVE!!
