News and Rumors

Please note that this page does contain SPOILERS in it. If you do not want to know anything about the future of Star Trek: Voyager in season seven GO BACK NOW!

You can't say I didn't warn you, so proceed at your own risk.

That said, please note that I have collected the following information from a majority of sites on the web. Due to it being the last season for Star Trek: Voyager , there is a lot of "junk" out there when it comes to news and rumors. What I post here is only from, what I believe to be, RELIABLE sources. The majority of this news is related specifically to P/T, but a little bit of general Voyager info sneaks in here and there.

I have done my best to give credit where credit is due, but if for some reason you see something up here that is not properly credited, PLEASE let me know.

Webster's Dictionary defines a rumor as:

rumor n : gossip (usually a mixture of truth and untruth) passed around by word of mouth [syn: rumour, hearsay] v : tell or spread rumors.

Keep that in mind when reading the below reports, as NOTHING is guaranteed.

Enjoy!

Further Updates on Lineage and Prophecy
Courtesy of The Universe

Lineage: Torres and Paris find out Belanna is pregnant. They find out that it is a girl, and that she has a spinal disorder that runs in Torres family. The doctor repairs the problem through gene resequencing, and this set Torres on a bizarre quest to change the DNA of her child. Because she was ridiculed as a child due to her forehead ridges, and because her father left her due to it being too hard to deal with 2 Klingon women in the house, she thinks she can spare her daughter all of that, and prevent Paris from leaving her. There is a bunch of flashbacks to B'Elanna as a child.

Prophecy: Voyager is set upon by a bunch of cult-fanatic Klingons who believe that Torres baby is the next Messiah. The story centers on Torres coming to grips with her heritage, and helping the leader of the cult convince the rest of the group that her baby really is 'the one' so that the cult can finally stop wandering the universe and settle on a planet. The Klingon cult has been traveling through space looking for 'a sign' for 3 generations, and due obviously to many incestuous relationships (which is never mentioned of course) they all have a genetic disease which is fatal. This disease is of course passed on to Torres and her unborn child. However, the child turns out to be a catalyst, and the doctor is able to make a cure from the babies blood, curing everyone. The Klingons are convinced that the baby really is their 'savior', and they settle on a planet, the end.

Robert Duncan McNeil on Tom Paris' Character Development
Courtesy of Random Flight

The November 2000 issue of the british TV Zone magazine features an exclusive interview with Robert Duncan McNeill, in which he discusses whether he will be getting a homecoming in Voyager's final season with journalist Steve Eramo.

"Over the years, I think the writers and producers have been very clear on the things that I like to see in Tom Paris and the direction I want the character to go in," says McNeill. "I wanted him to be someone who maintained his edge yet became more responsible and more of a leader. After all, he's a bridge officer and part of the command team. Someday down the road this character is going to grow into a person who will, hopefully, command his own starship. He's going to have to use all of his strengths along with some Captain Kirk-like qualities, which include the willingness to break the rules when necessary.

"So that's the kind of growth I've wanted to see in Tom Paris, and we've made some positive strides in that direction. I also think Tom's sense of humor, which can be ironic and sarcastic at times, has also helped define who he is. That's something I feel I brought to the character from the very beginning and have tried to keep it alive over the past six seasons."

"One thing that the writers are planning to focus more on this year is the romance between Tom and B'Elanna Torres [Roxann Dawson]," adds the actor. "That's been a concern of mine for awhile. They've had this relationship but we haven't really explored it and used it as well as we might have. However, we're finally going to make some headway this season. Fans will see some things on Voyager that they've never seen done before in terms of relationships on Star Trek. The ideas the writers have come up with are big and are going to be great fun to play."

He goes on to say....

"I had much more to do in the second episode we shot, which is called Drive. That was a lot of fun for me. In it Voyager discovers an area of space where different alien species get together and compete in shuttle races. Those scenes were done in a fashion similar to that of the Star Wars pod-racing ones. Naturally, Tom Paris joins in with the Delta Flyer and he has a blast zipping around space. In the midst of that, there's a great B-story with Tom and B'Elanna trying to figure out where their relationship is going. As I mentioned, the writers have some exciting plans for these two this season that could possibly include marriage, children, and who knows what else. We'll just have to wait and see."

Ethan Phillips on with Further Spoilers on the Upcoming Episode Prophecy and Season 7 Finale
Courtesy of TrekWeb.com

Michelle Erica Green has written a convention report from last weekend's UFC convention and sent it along to us. This report will also appear at The Daily Buzz:

"Phillips said in the upcoming Voyager episode "Prophecy," a group of Klingons who have been out of contact with their peers back in the Alpha Quadrant storyline come to believe that Tom Paris and B'Elanna Torres' baby will fulfill an ancient prophecy about the closest thing the Klingons have to messiah. Star Trek.com confirms that once the Klingons have been convinced by Captain Janeway that the Federation is no longer at war with them, they come aboard Voyager after a disaster on their own ship. This forces Neelix and Tuvok to share quarters, which leads to some predictable wackiness.

"Finally, Phillips stated that Ken Biller, Brannon Braga, and Rick Berman will write the last seven Voyager episodes -- presumably the arc that brings the ship back to the Alpha Quadrant. Phillips still had no idea exactly how the series would end, but he did say that all but perhaps two of the final episodes had been assigned scriptwriters."

Robert Duncan McNeill Talks Directing "Body and Soul"
Courtesy of TrekWeb.com

While talking with the magazine Fandom, Robert Duncan McNeill talks about the upcoming "Body and Soul", which the actor directed: "I think it’s going to be one of the couple of episodes that’s going to be a classic from our show. It’s really that strong. They are bumping it up and pushing it for November sweeps, trying to finish it up and get it ready for Nov. 15. It was a broad comedy, which we don’t often do. We were as successful as Star Trek has ever been with a comedy like that. It’s funny. It’s fast-paced. It’s entertaining. I think for the fans who really watch the show a lot, they will certainly get more out of it than people who don’t know the show. But even if you don’t know the show, you still get the humor and the spirit, and it’s still very entertaining."

Rumors on Tom and B'Elanna's Baby
Courtesy of TrekToday.com

DerekWW at TrekWeb (**NOTE- I went to TrekWeb.com, and I could not find any such a report, so take this with a grain of salt...**) has posted a new report on the upcoming episode 'Lineage', which was previously already reported to be dealing with Paris and Torres reaching "a crossroads in their relationship which could have long-ranging effects on both of their lives".

According to Derek, in this episode it becomes known that the newlywed couple will become the proud parents of a baby girl. The child will be conceived naturally, but, as previously reported, Torres will try to get rid of the child's Klingon DNA, in order to spare her child what she herself had to go to. The baby will be born at the end of the season.

Speaking of this ending, the TrekWeb report also mentionst that when the crew returns to Earth, Janeway will be standing trial for something as yet unknown.

As usual, please keep in mind that these are only rumours, and have not been confirmed by Paramount yet.

In episode number 258, “Lineage,” B’Elanna Torres faces some tough decisions with regard to her and Tom’s future happiness. This episode, which wrapped on shooting late last week, marks yet another turning point in the relationship of the newly married couple.

Filming for some of the flashback scenes from young B’Elanna’s childhood continued on Stage 16. These scenes are set at a campground and prove crucial to the development and backstory of the sometimes-volatile U.S.S. Voyager Engineer.

Further Spoilers for Episode 258, Lineage
Courtesy of TrekWeb.com

As reported earlier this Fall on TrekWeb, an upcoming episode titled "Lineage" (Formerly "Inner Child") will deal with issues similar to those raised by the modern-day abortion debate. The show, in which B'Elanna struggles with reengineering her unborn child to make it less Klingon, also could raise concerns voiced recently surrounding genetic engineering and its eventuality in our own time. The Official Star Trek Site has finally put up its brief synopses of the episode:

"Tom Paris and B'Elanna Torres reach a crossroads in their relationship which could have long-ranging effects on both of their lives. Early in her life, B'Elanna and her father joined his family on a camping trip where something happened - something that could result in B'Ellana making an irrevocable decision against Tom's will that no amount of technology can rectify

Once again taking the route of societal-commentary (already one episode in the new season will deal with managed health or HMO policies, "Critical Care") in the vein of the original Star Trek, expect ethical debate when Torres takes the future of her unborn child's genetic makeup into her own hands with an episode sure to be reminiscient of recent discussions over the potential applications of the mapping of the Human Genome. In "Inner Child", Torres tries to spare her unborn from the part of herself she most despises: her Klingon half.

Ken Biller Talks Voyager Season Seven
Courtesy of Cinescape Magazine

Cinescape have posted an interview with Ken Biller about Voyagers last season:

For six years, Star Trek fans have wondered if the crew of the Starship Voyager would find its way home after being lost in the farthest reaches of outer space. With Star Trek: Voyager about to embark on its seventh and final season, much speculation surrounds the decisions being made by the Powers That Be at Paramount as to whether or not Capt. Janeway and her crew will succeed. Cinescape magazine contributors Gregory L. Norris and Laura A. Van Vleet recently spoke exclusively with Voyager's new executive producer, Ken Biller, who revealed many tantalizing details regarding not only the fate of Voyager's crew when the series ends, but what they will face en route to getting there.

"We are definitely working hard to wrap up some series-long arcs for several of our characters," says Biller. "You'll see Captain Janeway's ongoing and single-minded quest to get her crew home. I'm not going to tell you whether or not she is going to accomplish that just yet, but it's something that has been her single purpose from the beginning, and it will get exacerbated this season to the point that she is really feeling the pressure. She'll have to decide just how far she is willing to go to succeed."

Biller also promises a season-long story arc that will resolve the Tom Paris/B'Elanna Torres romance, something he agrees the series has ignored for too long. "We now have a few different storylines that will resolve their relationship in a way that is surprising and in tune with Star Trek without being soap opera-ish. Part of the arc involves Voyager encountering a generational Klingon ship that has been traveling from the Alpha Quadrant toward the Delta Quadrant for many years," Biller reveals. "The offspring of the original Klingons who went off on this journey are people who don't understand that their fight with the Federation ended decades ago."

Redeemed Borg Seven of Nine's ongoing quest to recover her humanity will also play out in the new season. "She'll take some significant steps toward becoming a more fully rounded human being," Biller promises. "And we're doing an episode where you'll see Harry Kim pushed to his core, where he is forced to realize and acknowledge the fact that if Voyager doesn't get home, he's hit a glass ceiling. He's going to be stuck on this ship as an ensign for conceivably his entire professional career. That means giving up his dream, which is to captain a starship. He's going to be confronted with an opportunity to do that, and it's really going to test him and force him to examine how to balance his own desires with his loyalties to his family on Voyager. Also, in taking back the show to its early days, you'll see the old Maquis/Starfleet tensions arise once more during the course of the season."

Biller describes the conflict as a "psychological thriller" that pits some of the Starfleet people against the former Maquis.

"We might see things play out in a more present and immediate way where they'll have to deal with what the repercussions will be for the Maquis, who may be considered criminals back on Earth," Biller continues. "If in fact it becomes clear to the crew that home is within reach..."

And speaking of whether Voyager will reach Earth...come back tomorrow for part two of Norris and Van Vleet's report, which will include a first look at the two-hour Voyager TV movie coming this November as well as a few hints about when Capt. Janeway and company will finally get home.
