Welcome to The Final Ascension Project. Imagine, if you will, that Marvel Comics, the juggernaut publishing company that has brought us the greatest heroes who ever graced the four-color page, has decided to close down. But before they do, they have decided to end the universe they took so long to build. And all the plotlines, the culmination of sixty years of stories dating back to the second World War, will finally be answered in one grand design. The future of humanity as a race will be realized, but it will come at a price.
This fan-fiction site it unique because it employs a new manner of storytelling. Instead of telling chapters and individual stories in a series, This tale is formed by one long epic, unbroken. Scenes are written as they are formed in the writer's mind. And the story, though encapsulating the whole of the Marvel Universe, is for the most part being written by a single writer, with story consultants approached when there is need for it. Guest writers may also be approached.
The stories will at times be separate and unimportant to the greater tale, like in any comic series, however, most of the battles and trials featured within the pages are inextricably bound to the overall story arc.
For the sake of length, past segments of story will be broken down into smaller files that are viewable from the website. An updated news report will apprise new readers of what has gone before, and a previews section will hint as to what is to come.
The story begins where Marvel Comics left off during the Spring of 1999. Due to the nature of continuity, books were stopped at different points in that time period so that fan-fic continuity could pick up where it left off. The beginning of the story is told in an "Alpha File," which reveals the locations and current situations of all the major players in the epic. From there, various storylines branch off in different directions. The stories merge back together whenever appropriate.
The storyline differs from Marvel due to a single changed event, a timeline-altering event already established in the Marvel Universe that allows numerous other changes. This previously established Marvel event will be revealed as the story continues.
A year is left before the millennium, and great prophecies are beginning to be revealed, age-old predictions that could lead mankind into an age of cosmic enlightenment far beyond even its wildest dreams...or signal its death knell. Only the heroes, those men and women with special gifts that aid them in the fight for the protection of all, stand in the way of destiny. They alone will decide the fate of mankind.
