The Appeal of the Fourth Doctor

Before getting to specifics on Tomdoc, I should share my thoughts on my affection for the character as a whole:

I suppose part of it is that I am fascinated by the idea of a friendly, eccentric, sometimes very gentle fellow who nevertheless has the intelligence and skill to save whole galaxies. He can be grumpy or silly or mysterious, but at hearts he is someone very special, with a very open mind. Someone who could accept me for who I am and inspire me to be something greater than I am. And at the same time, I would be able to return such kindness by being his friend, keeping him company and soothing his troubles, trying to comprehend his age and wisdom...in short, his is an ideal love, whose inner beauty radiates out and makes him, in all his forms, so beautiful to my eyes.

I regard each of the eight Doctors as beautiful and - ahem - cuddlesome...the fourth one especially so. Why is that?

The answer lies in his striking individuality. The floppy hat, the colorful scarf, the jellybabies, the yo-yo, the odd sayings...no matter where in space or time he went, he always stood out from the crowd...He didn't care of course. ;o)

Though my siblings would tell you otherwise I have a very tender, romantic soul full of pity for pure-hearted (and even not-so-pure-hearted) misunderstood folk. Lord knows I've seen my share of misunderstanding. My empathy for him has turned into love.
