What? A GIRL playing

?

Yes, it's true! I have heard this line one too many times when I play the game. Maybe it's the blood, body parts, or the urge to kill - I love and am addicted to this game. So I've decided to give my review and a few helpful hints to any newbies out there who are taking their first plunge into this wonderful sick-minded game.

So what is MYTH?

Developed by BUNGIE, this is 3D game that follows a story where the living battle against the Fallen Lords. The armies consist of warriors, beserks, archers, and dwarves. The undead include such enemies as thrall, souless, fetch, and wights.

Playing against the computer, you must lead your living army against the undead through various maps each with certain objectives. If you choose to master these maps, I highly suggest the purchase of The Official Myth, the Fallen Lords Strategies & Secrets by Bart Farkas. This is a great book that can clue you in on how to solve each map and in general figure out what the hell your doing.

Multi-player (my favorite) allows you to play against others via the internet using both the living and undead. Locate the bungie website (see link below), log in your serial number on the Myth game you purchased, at the bungie web site, you and suddenly you find yourself playing against 12 year olds who rank top crown only a few weeks after they began. But don't feel bad, there are non-ranked rooms for fun and practice too.

A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF MY .SCORE NAME

When playing on the internet in a ranked room, you can find out anyone's score by taking your mouse, clicking on a name (incl. your own), and typing ".score". This will bring up that person's login name, survival ratio, number of wins, etc. Well, my login name is Dogbreath due to Simon, MY DOG, pictured here. All the names I could think of were taken when I tried to register - so with his head in my lap and exasperated, I typed it in. Thus my score name to this day reads as dogbreath. For those of you who know me out there, I appreciate all the thoughtful and wonderful mouthwash suggestions. I'll keep you in mind the next time my fetch sends a lightening bolt up your butt.

SOME HINTS ON USAGE OF CHARACTERS ON THE INTERNET

WARRIORS

Armed with a shield and a sword, I use as many of these guys as I can. Always keep your warriors grouped together except for one or two who stay behind to defend your archers. When a wight or dwarf approach that will produce heavy damage to your block, sacrifice one so the others may get far enough away. In turn your one sacrifice may be able to take out that problem and you can concentrate further on your slaughter.

ARCHERS

Use archers in with the wonderful landscapes of nature. In other words, get these guys up off the ground on a hill! It's easier for an archer to shoot downwards than upwards (I've lost every time it's happened to me) Plus, getting your archers up higher gives them a better chance for survival when the battle is going on down below. These guys are pretty damn helpless when an enemy with an axe or sword gets close. So keep a watchful eye and a few backup warriors/thrall - hell anything with a sword that may distract a creeping enemy long enough for your archers to move to safety. Above all, have your archers aim for those dwarves and wights to get them out of the way for your troops.

DWARVES

These little guys can cause some great damage with their explosive bottles. Their attitude, however, leaves something to be desired. They need a very tight leash as they end up killing the enemy, your troops, and themselves. When your not watching them closely, they'll throw whatever they got. My advice in the internet play is to keep these guys quite low in numbers. One or two dwarves is quite enough to handle. I typically send my dwarves far away from my army to hide behind a tree and sneak up on a big block of enemy troops if possible. Upon seeing archers, I turn my dwarf the other way as there is little chance with his slow pace of reaching them first. Dark maps have rain and I usually trade in all my dwarves for other warriors as their explosive bottles do not work with water.

FETCH

Ah, the beautiful Fetch - isn't his lightening bolt the most beautiful thing you've ever seen? One of my favorites, the Fetch can eliminate just about everything in its path. But if he misses and anything gets too close, the Fetch is just too damn slow to get away. Best bet is to keep these guys at a distance with your army doing a lot of the work. When a few stray from the battle, let the Fetch do his work. Also take out as many archers as possible - he needs a fair amount of hits before he'll drop, and you can eliminate half the arrows shooting at your troops.

WIGHT

By highligting this gross guy and hitting "t", the wight stabs and blows himself up taking everything else with him. It's just the greatest feeling when you see the body parts of your enemy exploding and landing everywhere. You can't blow up people in real life so why not take out your stress out with an exploding wight? But as with dwarves, these guys can also take out your own troops. Keep them far away in case they are hit by an enemy archer and explode unexpectedly. Since these guys are too slow to chase after a rival, another great tip is to hide them underwater or behind a tree. Then you can have fun coming suddenly out of hiding and blow away all your problems.

Of course these are but a few of the many different characters you will encounter from MYTH. But I'm not going to give away ALL my secrets. Besides, as so many of you say out there, "She can't be that good, she's just a girl!"

I like to keep a few surprises hidden for the next best comment I get after winning a game: "NO WAY, I LOST TO A GIRL?!"
