Bardic Magic

or The Free Bards

Welcome to the world of the Free bards! Have you read the books in this series? Me? I've read the Omnibus edition containing "The Lark and The Wren", "The Robin and The Kestrel", and "The Eagle and The Nightingale".

In the world of the Free Bards, the Bardic Guild was the power. They could do almost anything they wanted. They could discriminate the lowest classes. They were idiots. They were the bad guys.

In comes the Free Bards. People who believe that music should be shared, not locked up. People who openly defied the Bardic guild. It didn't help that their founder was a Master Bard himself, Taleysen (sp?). He grew tired of the Bardic Guild's endless cruelties. Can you believe that just because you were a woman or of a species other than human, you were not allowed to be a bard? Regardless of your Power? Yep! So Taleysen up and quit, and formed a group whom he called "The Free Bards".

The Free Bards were identified by the colourful bits of ribbon sewed onto their garments. Bards had silver and purple ribbons sewn on. The Free Bards were based loosely on the "Gypsy" thing (sorry if I'm offending anyone here!). They wondered around, spreading music, joy and so on...

The Free Bards were absolutely hated by the Bardic Guild (old stiff-necks as they are). For one thing, the Guild Bards had absolutely zilch in the way of creativity. To add insult on to injury, they were often so desperate for a new tune (lest they lose patrons) that they plagiarized songs from the Free Bards! Oh man! Can you imagine what that must be like for those turtles?

The series revolves around how the Free Bards step on the collective toes of the Bardic Guild... ;) Gotta love it!

While these books were great as a whole, there were no "favourite snippets". :( Yes, no "favourite snippets."

I'll get back to you when I'm done searching for the favourite snippets. There was one involving Rune and Taleysen (sp?)....
