Here's the latest Sliders news...

July 2001:

Well, the site is back up and we have alot planned. First off, there is a Sliders movie in the works. I have read the script and I think it is definitely going to be an amazing movie! For more info on that, check out the Sliders: The Movie section. Also, as an added bonus to the movie, the writer will be having a moderated chat soon in which she will talk about the movie. It should be in the next couple weeks, so keep checking with the site. There is a convention in the work too called Sliders: Earth Con One. This convention will be held Spring of 2002. There will be a script reading, film trailer, and all your favorite stars from Sliders should be attending. For more information about the convention, e-mail slidecon-one@aol.com. May 2000:

There have been many rumors floating around lately. One of them was that the movie has been denied. Another that the Sci-fi Channel's Sliders site and Bboard will be gone. I assure you that none of these rumors are true. For now, nothing has changed. A worker at Sci-fi assures me that the site and Bboard will remain up. I have also heard that the movie plans are still in the works, and that the movie is scheduled to appear in theaters in late 2001/ early 2002.

January 2000:

Well...Sliders Wednesdays are no more. Starting January 3rd there will be Monday-Friday Sliders reruns for 1 hour a day. Staring January 10th there will be new episodes of Sliders. Also, if anything looks like it may work out, it's the Sliders movie. Please Click Here to go to the Sliders movie section of this page.

December 1999:

September 1999:

I have been informed by a source that Viacom is thinking of purchasing Sliders to air on a new all sci-fi version of UPN that they are working on.

For the full story, look for the article "Sliders and Viacom" It's all there.

August 1999:

Just in case you hadn't caught this yet, the Sci-Fi Channel is airing the first eight episodes of season five in order beginning at 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 29. If you've missed any over the summer, here's your chance to catch up! It's listed as "Sliders Chain Reaction" on the programming schedule.

There has been a contest on the Sci-Fi Channel's Sliders site called Slide-It-Yourself. It was a contest in which a person was supposed to submit a logline for a Sliders Episode. The best 10 move on to the next stage, and two of the best will be made into episodes. Well...those 10 have been chosen. You can learn more about the contest at http://www.scifi.com/sliders/siy/

July 1999:

Sliders has been renewed by the Sci-Fi Channel for a fifth season.

Production on the fifth season started in September of 1998. The actors returned to work on October 16, 1998. Season 5 will also be the last season of Sliders.

Season Five will have 18 episodes. Normally, most full seasons are anywhere between 22 and 26 episodes. Interestingly, Sliders has only had two seasons (3 and 4) that fill out a full season. So what's the deal? Fans believe that the odd number is St. Clare Entertainment's push for a sixth season. With 18 episodes ordered for fifth season, a six season with 13 episodes would give Sliders exactly 100 episodes (if you count the Pilot as one episode). Since the Sci-Fi Channel likes to commit to only 13 episodes at a time, St. Clare and Universal used the popularity of the fourth season as leverage for an extra five episodes.

Bill Dial is the Executive Producer, Chris Black is the Producer and David Peckinpah is the Creative Consultant. Keith Damron, who wrote fourth season's "Virtual Slide" and "Lipschitz Live!" will step up as a Producer and Head Writer. Marc Zicree won't be back as producer this season.

It's been confirmed the Cleavant Derricks (Rembrandt Brown) and Kari Wuhrer (Maggie Beckett) are reprising their roles for the fifth season. Kari Wuhrer has also received a pay raise to $19,404 per episode, which is roughly $350,000 for the year.

Robert Floyd and Tembi Locke have joined the cast. Floyd, who bears a resemblance to Jerry O'Connell, will play Mallory, an amalgam of Quinn and another Slider who are physically merged into one another via a sliding mishap. Locke will play Diana Davis, a scientist working with evil slider Oberon Geiger (played by B5 veteran Peter Jurasik) who knows the ins and outs of sliding.

Sources close to the show have stated that Jerry and Charlie's departure was a power play on the part of Jerry. Jerry, seeking to pad his resume a little bit more, was demanding an Executive Producer credit for himself on the show. Those backing the show scoffed, since most 25-year-olds don't demand that much kind of power. JOC, already a writer, director and producer of the show's fourth season, felt being jilted on the job was an insult and decided to leave.

Charlie O'Connell, however, was a product of nepotism. Jerry and Charlie widely joked of his brother's ability to get the part of Colin for the younger O'Connell, and the producers used Charlie as bait to keep Jerry on the show as an actor. When that failed, Charlie, who never really cut the mustard as Colin Mallory, was excised from the show. Back-door politics? Absolutely. But that's the way Hollywood works.

The Wade Welles story line was intended to be wrapped up sometime in season five. The story, written by Michael Reeves of "Batman: The Animated Series," dealt solely with Sabrina and featured none of the other principal actors. It is supposedly to let the fans have some closure on Wade's abduction by the Kromaggs. However, with Sabrina enjoying a relatively safe job on ABC's "Sports Night" and asking for $40,000 for the one-time gig, it is unlikely that she will return in any fashion. It's been promised, however, that regardless of Lloyd's return, Wade's story arc will be resolved. Update: Sabrina Lloyd has done a voice-over for the episode which wraps up her storyline, titled "Requiem."

It's been confirmed by head writer Keith Damron that the Kromagg story arc will be finished up.
