Reagan Cole has a bounty hunter most of her life. In 1833 she pretended to be a Hungarian countess who arrested Duncan MacLeod for having a fling with the Duke's wife. But when she found out she was tricked by the Duke she rescues MacLeod before the soldiers could behead him. In 1998 she tries to go on vacation in Paris but witnesses a murder and enlist the aid of MacLeod to help her. She was blown up by a bomb while finding the killer and must stay out of Paris for the next 20-30 years.
