Roland Kantos had been looking for Duncan MacLeod for the past 400 years. He knows that if MacLeod lived he would fulfill a ancient prophecy. In 1996, Roland followed Cassandra who was also looking for MacLeod to warn him. Roland came close to beheading Duncan but Cassandra was able to stop him at the last minute. MacLeod then learend to stuff wax in his ear so that Roland's hypnotic voice would have no effect. This idea worked and Duncan was able to behead Roland.
