In 1746, Keane was protecting the Earl of Rosemont whom Duncan MacLeod murdered. From that time on, Keane has been tracking Duncan. He finally give up his search for Duncan after talking to Sean Burns who convinces him that MacLeod was a good man. In 1997, he found Duncan and wants to behead him because of Sean Burns death. Methos tries to help by fighting and beating Keane but MacLeod arrived and stopped Methos from beheading him. MacLeod then fought and defeated Keane himself and let him go only if he would let bygones be bygones.
