GAMBIT
Real Name: Remy LeBeau
Powers: Can "charge" objects with excessive kinetic energy, causing them to explode on contact. Gambit is also a limited telepath in that he has emense psionic defenses (i.e. you can't read his mind).
Significant relatives: Bella Donna, wife (Deceased, I think).
Thief. Charmer. Snake. Cunning. All thiese words and more have been used to discribe the "king o' t'ieves", otherwise known as Gambit. In his youth, he first encountered Sabretooth in France, an encounter which cost him his prize theft and the life of the woman he "loved" (He only used her to get the gem, but ended up having feelings for her). From that point on, Gambits life stopped being a game. He used his powers to win himself the title of King of the Thieves guild in Louisiana, where he married Bella Donna, "Queen" of the Assasins Guild, to prevent thier families from killing eachother. Bella Donna died soon thereafter.
Then one day, Storm emerged from the Seige Perilous as a 12 year old almost right on top of Remy. The two became fast friends (having noth been thieves), and Gambit followed Storm home to the X-Mansion. There, he became bitten by the love-bug over Rouge, and tirelessly hit on her, eventualy making the two into a couple. However, Rouge absorbs the memories and powers of those she touches, and Gambit has a few dark secrets he doesn't want anyone finding out, making the two an extremly pressured couple. Yet dispite the possible problems, the two remained with eachother.
That's when Sabretooth moved in. He tormented Rouge with Stories from Gambits past (like the one in France), straining thier relationship even further. Things get worse than that, though. With the end of the world almost upon them (see Age of Apocalypse), the two shared a kiss, thinking they would both die anyway. EEEHN! Wrong answer. Rouge ended up absorbing fractions of Gambits mind, but due to his defenses, Rouge didn't absorb much, just emotions and the need to go to Seatle...
After Gambit woke up, he redevued with Rouge and Iceman in Seatle, trying to prevent Rouge from learning his secret. However, After the lovers had a showdown in an abondon church, he was ready to give in and tell her everything by letting her touch him. She wouldn't do it. Sighing relief, Gambit then encountered Mr. Sinister, and in the words that were spoken, there was a hint that Gambit was in some way endebted to the big Mr. S.
Not really. The over the next 20-odd issues, little hints were dropped as to Gambits and Mr. Sinisters connection. For a while it seemed like he was going to be the X-Traitor. But that was Xavier in the form of Onslaught. However, upon his return from space with Rouge, Joseph (Apparently at the time Magneto, and the two had a lovers triangle with Rouge), Beast, and his gal-pal Trish Tilby, the five ended up in Antartica. Gambit was put on "trial" for no one knows why by "Erik the Red" (Who was actualy Magneto, we think, but Joseph... aww, forget it). With Maggot, Psylocke, and Angel dropping in, Gambits terrible secret was unvailed. It was HE who assembled the Marauders for Mr. Sinister. It was HIS fault Angel, Colosus, Shadowcat, and Nightcrawler almost died that day. And all for something that looked like a metal egg (Sources indicate it was a PEZ). In rage and disgust, The X-Men left him in Antartica as they returned home.
Gambit recently returned to the X-Men after running into Storm and Shadowcat in Asia. He and Rouge are trying to get together again, and Wolverine, feeling somewhat betrayed, has made it clear that if Gambit plays the X-Men "for saps again", then there's gonna be trouble. He is currently accompying Rouge, Colosus, and Storm in searching for Proffesor X.
