Q: What about the new server? Will you be giving us the link to it?
A: Eventually. The content is still under development. When it's ready to go live, I'll post a link at http://www.geocities.com/alanperry.
Q: Will everything be hosted on the new server?
A: All of my personal Web projects will, yes.
Q: Will Starbase 301 be moving to the new server?
A: No.
Q: Never?
A: Impossible to tell at this time. If it ever is, it won't be for a long time. Probably years. It's easier right now to say that no, it won't.
Q: What if we send you a petition?
A: I've seen the log files. This place never got enough traffic. You'd never get enough people, and you'd be wasting your time trying.
Q: Do you expect a lot of protest?
A: I doubt it. My e-mail addresses are still active. But I don't expect to hear anything.
Q: How many requests would it take for you to put the whole site back up?
A: Millions, with offers of money. And then I'd get sued, so I can't accept any offers for money, and since I can't make money, then it's not worth my while no matter how many requests I get.
Q: Is Geocities to blame for why you brought the site down?
A: Only partly. I'm not especially fond of the right side frame right now. In the good old days it was a quaint little watermark that bubbled down the page when you scrolled. Then it was a pop-under window. Then Yahoo took over, and made a tiny little unintrusive square that could be easily minimized. Then the square got bigger, but it was still easily minimized. Now they've got this gawdawful frame on the right side. No, that damned thing is too much.
But that's just part of the reason. We're busy with real life endeavors; work, family, stuff like that. And we've moved on. Both franchises are off on hiatus, so we're just going to close up shop, and see what the future will bring.
