The Adventures of Goldfish and Geneva

The World of Magic (Part 3)

"Well," said Dockleaf to his fellow trees, "this is it. The battle lines are drawn. Beyond our perimeter are the opposing armies. I just hope this plan of Goldfish's will work, or we're all dead."
"I don't understand what's taking the other armies so long to attack,"
said one of the trees nearby.
"Perhaps the magics that protects the land are very strong..." He stopped to see Lord de Winter. "My Lord."
"Aah, faithful Dockleaf," said the Avatarr. "The defences that Goldfish has created are formidable. With the powers I possess to reinforce them, our enemies are having a hard time breaching these defences."
"Where did he get such defences?"
"It was strange. He looked at the map of Staghorn and went to a nearby city. He stood in a field not too far from here and pulled the metal from the ground. Impromptu mining, he called it. He was very disappointed when he found out it was not what he was after. This isn't adamantium, he said. It wasn't invulnerable. I asked him what metal was and he laughed. He said it would not be as strong as the material as he was looking for but it would have to do. I reinforced it with my magic to make it invulnerable, but it won't hold the enemy off for long. How he made such defences with multiplied in to a lot more of the metal than he pulled up. Then he said how much he loved this world. Strange thing for it's destroyer to say. Apparently." He shrugged. "Anyway, it's time I assembled my armies together. This may be the final time we can speak like this, old friend."
"We are dedicated to serving the Avatarr," said Dockleaf. "We will willingly die in your service."
"I just hope you don't have to," said the Avatarr and rode off to greethis seven armies.

Meanwhile, Dave and Jo appeared in the enemy camp, far behind the enemy line. They were wearing dark cloaks and hoods.
"I am saying for the record that I do not like this plan, Dave."
"Noted, sweetheart. Look, all we have to do is keep a low profile and the plan'll go smoothly."
"If you're sure..."
"Listen, it'll be a piece of cake. Trust me."
"That's twice you've said that to me," she said. "If you are up to something, you're for it."
"Sweetheart, I am not up to anything. Now shush!" They crept in to the main tent avoiding the enemies that we're around. Once inside they looked about to see if there were any items they could use to try and scupper the invasion.
:::Nothing::: thought Jo.
:::Same here::: Dave sent back. :::Hold on someone's coming. I'll levitate us to the roof off the tent:::
:::You can do that?::: asked Jo.
:::My powers here are really increased. I should be able to do it::: And he did. :::Oh, this is cool!::: he thought.
:::It isn't bad::: agreed Jo. The doors to the tent opened and in walked an elf and an orc.
"So, Darkfleet," said the orc. "The invasion goes well."
"Aye, Skurm," said the elf. "The map now shows that Ganymede has turned black. It now belongs to us. The faerie are subjugated and will be our slaves once the battle is over."
"I want their queen," said Skurm. "She will make an excellent wench. Or an excellent feast, if she displeases me!" The two of them laughed.
"She is yours," said Darkfleet. "When we killed our members of the Five and took over, we gained more power than we could have imagined. Our old leaders were weak. We are strong."
"Yes. Our first job is to make all our encampments impenetrable. I say we call on the dwarves to turn all the tents we have to stone castles. Then we can have strong defences."
"A good idea. I shall mind speak with the dwarven leader." :::Hear me Thoras, hear me. We need your peoples to transform our tents in to stone castles to defend ourselves should the need arise:::
:::It will be done Darkfleet:::
"There. Now we shall strike!"
"Not today!" said Dave as he cut the levitation, and formed a sword out of the air.
"What!" cried Darkfleet and dived out of the way, narrowly avoiding being skewered. "Guards! Get them!" he shouted as Dave wrestled with Skurm. Jo was still stuck in the air.
"Dave, aren't you forgetting something?" she said, but Dave couldn't hear her as he fought. Darkfleet fled the tent as the guards came in and pulled Dave off of Skurm. Skurm got up and jumped to punch Dave in the head.
"Kill them both," he said and left the tent. The guards aimed their crossbows at Jo and fired. Jo teleported back to the guards who fired them. She could not teleport herself out as she would float away, so she aimed her healing field at Dave. It would also catch the others in the range but it did not matter. When Dave got her down she'd be fine. Dave reacted firsthand stunned the guards and pulled Jo from out of the air.
"Sorry, forgot!" he said.
"What the hell happened to the 'low profile' business?"
"I changed the plan, slightly."
"Terrific!" She said and they ran out of the tent and in to a waiting group of elves.
"This just isn't our day," said Dave as the elves pounced on them. Jo quickly teleported them to safety.
"This is becoming a habit," she said.
"Wasn't it before?" asked Dave. Jo sighed as she shook her head.
"Is this part of your plan?"
"Well I did say I changed it," Dave replied, with a grin.
"So what now?"
"We take this place apart, piece by piece."
"Oh God, it's the Hellfire Club all over again."
"It is not!" Jo sighed again as she looked at the warriors they had justleft. She pointed over to the elven warriors.
"Dave, what do they look like to you?"
"Demonic elves??"
"That's what I thought. That's a legion of demonic elves!"
"The magic must be altering them more than I anticipated. I'm not fond of genocide but.."
"There has to be another way!"
"I don't see it."
"I'm teleporting us back to de Winter. We have to tell him of what is happening here!"
"Okay then let's go!" They teleported back to de Winter and told him of what was going on.
"Demon elves! This isn't as bad as you make it sound. They are the fabled Dark Legion, the premier fighting force of the eleven race. They have few weaknesses as they were altered by magic at birth, but any thing metallic is a problem to them, not just iron, as it used to be."
"Jo, teleport me back. I'm taking them out."
"But Dave..."
"No buts. I'm taking them out. Teleport me back. You stay here."
"Okay, but I'm gonna keep a lock on you at all times." She passed Dave another sword. He got it and grinned. "I wouldn't want it any other way, sweetheart." Jo teleported Dave in. "Okay. Now it's my turn!" he shouted to the vampire elves, who were stunned by his arrival. he started slashing with one sword whilst controlling the other with his powers leaving bits of metal in the demons so it killed them, and regenerating the swords as he did so. Under normal circumstances this would not have been possible, for he had some limits and regenerating metals like this for extended periods was beyond even him. The demon elves could not get near him. Some turned to mists in similar ways to vampires, but the swords cut through he mist and they rematerialised as very dead elves. They posed no threat to Dave at all, such was his fighting fury and soon there were none left. Dave stood untouched but very angry. The normal elves backed away from him as he advanced towards them. "Right!" he said. "I want you all to surrender." The elves backed away and the orcs advanced instead. Their hands were glowing with dark magic, and Dave prepared his own powers over heat in response.
:::Dave::: thought Jo :::That isn't exactly smart!:::
:::All part of the plan, darling:::
:::Oh, good! I'm glad you know what you're doing::: Dave grinned as he advanced towards them, making his way through the tents. Suddenly the tents turned to stone fortresses around him, cutting him off from the orcs around him as the dwarves completed their magic. Uh oh, he thought, this isn'tpart of my plan. Then he felt his powers flux slightly and a victorious cry came up.
:::Dave::: thought Jo, with some urgency. :::The defences are broken. They're coming to the attack!:::
:::And this wasn't part of it either! Jo get me out of here!::: he sent to her as he teleported out only to reappear where he'd left from. He chuckled nervously. :::Jo, now would be good:::
:::I can't. Something's blocking my power to reach you!:::
:::It could be the magics the dwarves used are creating some kind of blocking effect. Teleport a chasm between you and the opposing army, to buy some more time:::
:::It won't stop them:::
:::It's not meant to, just keep doing it. But try to save the talking trees:::
:::Okay. I'll make the chasms a couple of thousand feet deep:::
She did so and the warriors that were on the land she teleported out were cast to the other side of Stormm. The battle for Staghorn had begun. Staghorn was cut off from the invading armies by a chasm of over three thousand feet deep and over a 5 kilometres wide. Jo's powers had seen to:::I will. You too::: Their 'conversation' ended. Dave smiled went to work on a plan to get him out of there.
