The Adventures of Goldfish and Geneva

Unfinished Business (Part 1)

"And now you die," growled the man towering above Dave Goldfish, former Chief of Operations at C&C UK and one time Chevalier of the Fringe. The figure lifted the staff he wielded high above his head and brought it down towards Goldfish with a great deal of force. As the staff came down Dave reached out to block it and wondered how he had ended up in this situation.

************************************************************

The Dalek forces had been moving in on him and Jo towards the trap they had set with the Doctor and then they had fired the time distortion device ensnaring the Dalek forces. However there was no way for either of them to escape. The distortion was preventing Jo from teleporting them both to safety.
"I love you," she said. Dave had responded and they held each other. It had been often said that before you died your life flashed before your eyes and now Dave was trying desperately to find something in his life that could get them out of here. His mind was working at an incredible rate. He thought of all his experiences with the X-Warriors - tracking them to the Phalanx home planet, the showdown in the Hellfire Club between Sinister and Shaw, his joining the Fringe, his battle with Luke, all his own adventures, Blaquesmith's wedding to Crystal. Then he thought of something else - The AoX, an alternate reality created by Blaquesmith's time shifting powers when he had them. Dave had travelled there via a teleportation accident as reality changed. He had visited a void area before getting there. Jo saw this in Dave's mind and acted on it. She might not be able to get them to anywhere in the universe but she could get them to the void.
She tried with all her might to get them there and just as the rift closed she did so and they had escaped. However they were trapped in the void, unable to move or speak yet totally aware of their surroundings, yet no time would pass. Dave confirmed this as he could see his watch and it was if time did not exist here. As their minds were active, so too was their mind link, an after effect of Jo's teleportation powers.
:::Dave::: said Jo :::I recognize this place:::
:::You do?:::
:::Yes, but when I see it, it exists as a map of our universe, represented by 'terraformed' white lines. It allows me to teleport to safe places and not in to the middle of anything.:::
:::Interesting. How long have you stay here:::
:::Nowadays only a fraction of a second, but when I first started using my powers I spent ages in here learning what to do, where to go. :::
:::Can you get us out of here?:::
:::I don't know. With my senses disrupted by the temporal distortion all I can see it as is a blank. I don't know if we can leave here without someone opening the other side, but I'll try:::
:::Okay:::
Jo focused her powers as she had done what could have been seconds ago, if they could tell for they could not tell how long they had stayed silent before attempting to mind speak. Nothing happened.
:::I can't do it::: If she could have sighed, she would have done. Dave tried to reassure her.
:::Try again, but try to draw on my strength as well. Since we're linked, I might be able to transfer some of my power over to you.:::
:::I'll try::: and she tried again. Dave began to will his own strength into her and after a while they were able to open a small opening. :::It's working, D:::
:::I know, sweetheart::: and they kept trying until the opening became larger and larger. Then the opening was large enough to get the both of them through and a vacuum was created and they were both sucked in to the opening and they appeared in a place unfamiliar to them, but there was something about it that Dave sensed he knew, even though he couldn't place it. However he pushed it to the back of his mind, as he kissed his wife.
"We're alive!" he said, triumphantly.
"Just think, we could have stayed like that for all eternity," said Jo.
"Well, I could think of worse places to be," said Dave, a gleam in his eye. "This isn't Earth, is it?"
"No. I'm getting nothing form this place. All I can sense is the void. Even on Avalon I could get an impression of the planet, but here there's nothing. Dave, I can't teleport us at all. Unless I can restore my link to home, we're stuck here."
"Y'know, I get the strangest feeling I've been here before," said Dave. "But I don't recognize any of it."
"Another mystery," she saw Dave concentrating. "What's wrong?"
"My power over metallic particles. It's not working right."
"Come again?"
"I can control the iron in my bloodstream but I can't control anything else metallic. Your blood, my watch, my uniform, nothing."
"Your powers have been working on and off since you died and were resurrected, but they've never been this bad. I've got a bad feeling about this, hon."
"You're not the only one," said Dave. "Look behind you." Jo turned around to see a group of people, armed with very advanced technology which was pointing straight at them.
"State your allegiance!" barked one of them. He looked very much like a guard of some sort.
"We've done this before," Jo sighed.
"Yes, but then we had our full powers," reminded Dave. He turned to the guard. "Er, we have no allegiance, as such," he said.
:::What are you doing?::: asked Jo.
:::I've got a plan:::
:::Oh, no:::

"Why are you here?" the guard demanded.
"We're travellers who have lost our way. Could you take us to the nearest city?" The guard laughed and he went to his group who conferred for a moment. He then turned back to Dave.
"Where are you from?"
:::This'll be good::: said Jo.
"We are from a place called England, on Earth."
The guard looked startled.
"Come with us. We'll take you to our citadel."
:::See?::: said Dave. Jo looked at him and shook her head in disbelief.
